Ouch! Looks like the cost of the trip has just gone up! On the bright side, your sinar will soon have a sparkling new ground glass!

lol, +1 from me. Time for new ground glass:bsmilie:

I am using paterson. brought from Rubi.

Haven't taken any LF photos at HK yet, someone knock into me inside the mrt and fell. Ground glass broken from shock. Now really have to find servicing already.

This is very unfortunately. Hope you are OK and no injuries.

Goto Kimberly Road in Jim Sar Zhui and look for replacement glass to TONG for the moment.

Chan Hong (David Chan should have a lot of spare parts, but price a bit cut throat).
Do not bring your camera, take the dimension and pretend you want to buy spare part

I use the Chromega 8x10 print processing drum that holds 4 sheets of film, and like it very much. So much that I bought an extra one as a spare in case the first one cracked. :-) They do come up on ebay every once awhile. Set up a search and wait for one to appear :-)

The other accessory that I think will work really well with the Paterson 3-reel tank is this. Its essentially a sheet film holder for the 3-reel tank. This is probably cheaper than most Jobo tanks?

Oh, the Unicolor 8x10 print processing drum will work very well too - in fact, there's one for sale for 5 bucks right now!

Wah, I should have bought this instead of the jobo drum!!!

5 bucks @ Buy it now is good.i should have go for a drum instead.

I have used the Paterson orbital processer twice and is very happy with the results. No leakage of chemicals. i was kiasu so I used 160ml of developer and do constant agitation. using HC-110 dilution B that means i only need to use 5ml of the concentrated syrup to develop 4 sheets.

there are a few on ebay UK now. Sometimes the prices go crazily high but you can still get a good bargain at times. Just be warned that the shipping to Singapore will be high as it is a big box although it is quite light.

This is perhaps the best time to play film. :)

In the old days, there were no internet, Ebay was not that straight forward, and prices were beyond reach.

And the best time to play 4x5! Not many amateurs in the past can afford to buy 4x5 cameras! If there's any blessing in the decline of film - it's the affordability of these equipment! Just hope that Kodak and Fujifilm will keep churning out their good stuffs!

losheng, just curious, does your darkroom has a 4x5 enlarger and you do wet printing ?
I used to do up to 16x12in print for a 35mm negative so it would be amazing to see a 4x5 printed on a big silver paper.

I do wet printing - photos are not photos unless they are printed and framed :-) Ok, I'm just being anal here ...

I've bought a 4x5 Omega Prolab from the states. Because of its size, it's only partially back - the lamp house and the base is back, and I'm waiting for the rest to arrive with the container shipment of a friend who's relocating back to Singapore. For now, I have a Meopta that I bought some 15 years ago from Ruby, and a Durst that a photolab threw out when they decided that it's the end of wet darkroom for them.

There are some really good deals on craigslist - fantastic setups for USD3-500! Just need to figure out freighting!

Is it possible we hold a small gathering to do printing? Never seen it done before (Young punk here)

That's a good idea! I find wet darkroom a very therapeutic experience, especially so when compared to sitting in front of the computer doing digital post processing. I believe many on this thread have prior wet darkroom experience, and it seems that SAFRA is still running darkroom courses. I wonder how many CC's still have darkrooms?

But otherwise, I'd be happy to share how it is done at the make-shift darkroom at my office. I figure I can get the 4x5 enlarger set up by mid-November, otherwise we just have to make do with 135 and 120 negs. I'll be out of town for the next 3 weeks, so if anyone is willing to share the experience in the mean time, please go ahead and organize one!

I just checked with Macpherson CC ( used to grow up using the darkroom there ).
The darkroom facility there is no longer exist. All students are using digital now.. what a shame.

Seems like we have to go SAFRA...

sounds like a 4x5 enlarger is big. yeah these days ppl seems to think of wet darkroom to be limited to the film development only. in fact film development can be done in daylight! (only film unloading/ loading need to be done in the dark) but wet printing has to be done in the dark (with safe light of course).

Signz..personally i have to go the hybrid way of wet film development with dry digital post processing/printing.

SAFRA (Mt Faber) is still doing darkroom courses although it take a while to gather enough ppl to start a class. so can go register yr interest with SAFRA if interested. in that case you dun have to worry setting up yr own darkroom or buying yr chemicals :)

hahah! You are right! No wet darkroom is needed for film development. In fact, if you push it a little further, you just need a darkroom, not necessarily a wet one, for enlargement. Many of us are already using paper drums to develop sheet films, and the same can be used for paper. So all you really need in the Singapore context is to install light proof curtains in your room that you can draw up, and a little space for an enlarger (in the office, I put my enlarger on top of a washing machine! :-)), then use the same drum to develop the prints! :-) If you can afford a little more cash, there's also the Nova Darkroom Tent. A wet darkroom is luxurious because you can put trays around, and have easy access to water. But hey, it is Singapore we are talking about!

The Omega Prolab enlarger is only marginally bigger than the medium format ones, and has about the same foot print - but the stem is very inconvenient to carry. A more feasible way is simply to buy the set, and send it back as unaccompanied luggage, in which you'll only be paying cargo rates, and its a lot easier than dealing with freight forwarders.

Can the darkroom be rented by Safra member, instead of having to sign up for a course to use it?
