Huh? 4/3 is dead? Gee... I am buying another lens this week for the E-5...
Am I the only one in here still investing into 4/3? Hmmm... this is interesting...
Well, who cares... I am still shooting... this whole week is paying assignments for magazine/editorial, so the E-5 can "earn its worth" since I like my cameras "free". 3 magazines in one week, E-5 becomes a "free camera" in a week... wondering how many Nikon/Canon users can say that so freely...
So, my 4/3 is very much alive and kicking and still having UK editorials coming after me for images... I wonder who said "inferior", "low this and that"... I am going to smack you with three magazines... I suspect a cover in one of the mags too... so go figure...
At the end of the day, the camera is a tool, you can have the latest and bestest... if you aren't producing good images, it is just a useless toy in your hands.
Oh, this thread is not about Photography, it is about the 4/3 system... well, it is still very much alive and kicking.

Only a tiny fraction of the people who buy a DSLR shoot professionally, and a product line has to generate revenue (directly or indirectly) to stay relevant.
A "better" camera doesn't prevent one from getting better in photography, I suppose?
yaso cute yr baby bro?
And I just bought two more lenses for my E-3, the 9-18 & 50mm; also bought the 14-54 a few months ago.
Well in my job they've provided me with a Canon, and I tend to get mediocre shots with it (note I've been shooting in manual mode for over 30 years and digital for more than 10 years so I do know what I'm doing)...I brought in my Oly for one job and the shots were just so much better looking! I just can't get the results with the Canon I can get with any of my Olys.
yathe cute milk sucking, diaper wasting, baby

Me too!!! Still looking at what lenses and accessories to get for my 4/3 E-3 .. after shooting for more than 30 years... hmm... I switched from Nikon to Olympus... for those who have no confidence with 4/3, I understand... Olympus is a bit slow in DSLR... but we get excellent quality lenses....

I am a happy 43 user, but my only peeve is that it sucks to have not much support for the 43 format. Not much choice to print the photos, and troublesome in trying to get a digital crop photo album. I went with the 5d instead of the e-5 just because it lessens the workflow for me as a photographer. If i can frame my photos in the 32 format on the viewfinder, without me having to crop the image, i would have gone Oly in a heartbeat.
Thats where my m43 comes in. Now i can frame the picture in 32, making it possible for me to use this camera without adding unnecessary complication to my workflow...
when I first bought my E1, I was so pleased with the camera. I had hoped that it would be a succesfull camera system, that it will the the start of a long line of E-x cameras. Four thirds will rule the world.
Now, as I see the threads in this forum, the number of threads on four thirds is dwindling by the day and now it didn't even make it to the first 2 pages of the forum. Almost every thread is on micro four thirds. The market has spoken.
While I'm still happy with my four thirds DSLR, and I can accept the limitations, ie. limited dynamic range, poor high ISO performance, it just feels lonely in a world where people have moved on to micro four thirds.
I've no plans to abandon my camera system, but there is nothing to look forward now, no new four thirds lenses, no new four thirds DSLR body, no new four thirds innovation. I guess I'll hang on to this system till it breaks down on me. In the meantime, I'm looking at Nikon and Canon to see what innovations they've come up with.
As for the micro four thirds, it is to me, a no man's land. It's contrast detect autofocus is still not on par with phase detect autofocus of DSLR and it's promise of small and portable still can't beat the Canon G12 or even the Canon S95. Live View lags too much for action photography.
If I want small and portable on a holiday trip, I'll take the Canon S95 or even the G12 and sacrifice some IQ. If not, my E520 is light enough and Olympus Zuiko lenses are not too heavy, the SG grade that is.

"Multiple Aspect Ratios
Express yourself by altering how you frame the world -- choose from nine aspect ratios, from the standard 4:3 to the cinematic 16:9. By selecting an aspect ratio before shooting and easily reviewing images on the LCD throughout the shoot, the Multi-Aspect function adds a new means of expression to your photography. "
