Sorry I didn't quite understand this anology. I am a straight forward person. If no wrong what is there to opologuse? One can show empathy and say sorry for other suffering but need to opologuse.

Whether he has given or taken even more. I will let those that have given decide.

He is not stupid in the ways of how religion works and how to wave his 'magic wand' he is not the first to do this and it has worked for many western religious group that were found to have cheated or done wrong. This apologizing technique is a safety play they cast for sympathy and support in the hope it changes or soften the outcome they face. With another group, this is why they are so convincing in preaching their 'snake oil business' is because they managed to convince themselves they are the real thing and that what they do is for the good of the people. Apology is good for your soul regardless whether you're straight forward or crooked backward.

You don't need to have a reason or logic to do it.
