kentmere film from my first bulkroll

having bought a 100ft roll of kenmere 400film
for 29 usd from bhphoto.

i like the film:

+ works okay at 800 iso
+ flat when scanning
+ cheap to buy
- more grainy than Tri-X
- more development time to figure out as there aren't
too much info on massive chart website.

i shot in iso 200, 400 and 800 but didn't have the development
time for Ethol UFG, the above roll was developed at
around 10mins @ 30C in 1+2 Dilution. I think the 800 can develop
a bit longer. The 200 and 400 iso are good, the 800 is usable as well.
All of them have been brightness and contrast adjusted.

nice... am also interested in cheaper bulk roll films (the whole point is to bring the cost down right?).
currently on my 1st roll of 100ft tri-x (bought from ruby)..

a few questions:
1. do you have a bigger pic of those you posted (shot at iso 400), can share?
2. whats the estimated shipping cost and delivery/lead time for bulk rolls bought from bhphoto?

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Do you have larger photos which you can post in flickr to have a look?

Also interested in your shipping charges, did you buy a large order?

I've been using tri-x bulk from ruby for a while, I think on my 3rd reel now with 2 more spares in my cupboard. Results look good from the kentmere.

that is a lot more grainy than tri-x + xtol or even diafine. but it is an interesting look.

from what I know, kentmere is by ilford, right?

hi,

it is grainy... accentuated by the room temp film development (30C) of the above images.

the grain is not mushy, and it doesn't clump too much.

here are two recent images using kentmere 400 film.

Breakfast at Parkway Parade.
Captured on the m5 with 50 Cron,
film is Kentmere 400 exposed at iso 800
Developed in Kodak D76 in 1+1 Dilution.

love the grains... so different from digital eh ?

the grains are, unfortunately, not to my liking. guess i'll stick to the tri-x for the time being (although its pretty ex).

btw, do you have formapan samples? (it is the 2nd cheapest on bhphoto =p)

You can try arista premium for freestyle photo. About half the price and many claim it's OEM tri X. Have two bulk rolls in my
Cabinet now xD

My bet is vpost will be quicker. They ship via unregistered surface mail or FedEx only. (I.e slow or expensive) IMHO shipping to vpost then directing to you would be faster. You should consult bro Raytoei though. He was the one who intro-Ed this to me xP my first experience with their ground shipment was extremely bad

Careful about X-ray.

I don't think ISO 400 films will be affected by X-ray. Iirc, it's only ISO 3200 films and above?

So far I haven't had any issue with ISO400 films going through X-ray.

Yeah. My tri x went through X-ray scanners at least 10 times while I was in Egypt and they're still okay.

when will we encounter those super strong ones?
good to know.

Not personal luggage x-ray dosage. I meant those super strong ones.

You mean like, in military installations?

My arista premium passed through luggage X-rays twice, maybe more yet they're not fogged up or anything :O

The negative is quite slimy to me after coming out of the dryer cabinet.
Quite grainy even for the Iso 100.
But for the price, i am not complaining.
