Good lens for the kind of money.

keep it. if you don't like it, buy the D70 body only set....price-wise, not much diff even if you buy the bundle then spend the effort to sell the lens!

For regular use, it's a pretty good and ultra-convenient lens. But if your often use it critically in a difficult situation like taking buildings or stuff with high contrast (eg sky-building edges), you may encounter some nasties (eg CA, wavy kind of distortion). But nothing serious if you print on small prints and if you don't look critically.

This one is DEFINITELY a keeper. Good range, decent optic and light.

I am keeping it too, very versatile lens, except the macro is not that great.
Unless Nikon comes out with a better DX lens , if not this is the best match for D70 now.

Clicked on the wrong, vote. Thought the first option was "Yes, I will keep the lens"...

Yes, I'm definitely keeping the lens!

I sell away my 18-70 DX liao..Do you know why ?
Coz I found a better lens than this 18-70DX.
Sigma 18-50mm DC $170 only. I enlarge to 16 X 24..no problem..superb

;) Think I'd do the same, but not go for the Sigma (cropped, too), but rather for a Tamron 17-35 DI. Why? Because I've got several film bodies, too, I plan to keep and thus need a full-format lens. The cropped DX or DC toys don't interest me, even if the Nikkor seems fine glass and is AF-S (but G) :(. Even not usable on "real" (H) APS.
I own a fine 28-70 AF-D (the old and slow but sharp and distortion-free 3.5-4.5), and I plan to buy a 2/35. I think Nikon is on the wrong way with its DX-lineup and will repeat the big mistake of the IX-Nikkors :thumbsd:

Sigma 18-50. Cheap cheap...160 bux. The 18-70DX should be slightly better in the corners and perhaps slightly faster AF. It's too cheap, even as a toy lens. :bsmilie: I think I have seen joho using it in some of his weddings.

if you have extra cash. sell it. get a better lens.
i you budget tight and newbie. use it to practice. sell later.

there's only one current comparable 'better' lens with roughly the same sort of coverage in Nikon's lineup: 17-55mm f2.8, which is about 4x the cost of the 18-70, but whether you can get 4x better pictures with it as opposed to the kit lens is another matter.

Im using sigma 18-50mm DC lens..print out 16X 24..no distortion at all.
And I found out that the LAB dosent do much on the colour correction.
Pretty good....colour zun zun sui sui.
As a photographer ,you must know your equipments well. If you want to sell your 18-70mm DX just because of extra cash..not worth it at all.
Only $290 different...not worth it lah.

Joho sold it for the 12-24 Nikon.. f/4

The range is good and since its an ED lens, you can't get too wrong. Its really value for $$ - have you seen some of the lenses that come with the F55 models? :thumbsd: Or even the one bundled with the 300D...enough said.

Seriously, its a good 'standard' lens to have , great for travel (especially with tour groups that zip from one end of the country to the other in 10 days flat!!)...

So...keep it.

Just shot a wedding yesterday with sigma 12-24 too. But better have quick fingers when changing lenses. :)

its a keeper

I sold my kit lens for $420 and bought a Sigma 18-125 F3.5-5.6 for $550. Anyway both are good for general carry around usage but Sigma has much wider range. Can't really tell the difference in picture quality for amature photographer like me. My vote is sell

Until I can afford a fast and sharp lense with roughly the same range. I'll hang on to the kit lense, since it's hard to do better.
