I hope local supplier will counter this

Not really attractive at all if you take into consideration shipping and tax. I guess prices of DSLR have come down so much there is little room left to move. The local agent does not have the volume to match such price cuts.

I mean the kx ( as well as many of the entry level camera from other make ) is only slightly more than the cost of a premium PnS today. Dont expect prices to fall further. Rather, I would think a more logical step for the manufacturers is to put in more features. Unfortunately, most of these are useless add-ons.

I suppose those who are chasing the few dollar discounts will still be interested but for such small differences, I'd rather support the local agent and have fuss free access to local support too.

BTW, Happy New year to all Pentaxians (as well as camera owners from the dark side too!)
:). It seems the red colour of Pentax is ideal for Lunar New Year!

yeah $469 x 1.45 exchange rate x additional 1.07 ( Custom GST) = $728 already

Adding a reasonable amount of shipping charges and it will like $800++ already, comparing to the cheapest $782 here.

Plus you may not even get warranty coverage + you can see it + risk of getting damaged and thus additional cost to ship it back for exchange.

Have fun buying it more expensive from the US and having more trouble too...... :thumbsd:

perhaps with the invention of teleportation, this price will be possible, all courier services will close down..

But wont teleportation cost you $10000 per gram ?? :bsmilie:

no need that high tech lah.
just ask pentax to send them directly from their Vietnam factory to here, definitely better than transport to US first and transport back to SG....
:D

This thread should be under Consumers Corner :)

Its not any cheaper than local price. You need to pay for shipment, GST and the US exchange rate is not really that good right now.

The TS pointing out the price drop rather than about whether its worth it or not.................

Precisely! I was hoping local supplier will counter this.

U$470x1.45=S$681.5

Let's say S$688 is the price to beat

also, i would rather pay a marginally higher price in singapore just to support our local supplier.

Pentax cameras are not made / assembled in the US are they? Transportation cost shouldn't be exceeding high as compared to the US as to SG.

how many units of pentax cameras do you think the main supplier controlling flow to the entire pentax base of america purchases, compared to singapore? :)

therein lies your answer.

volume based purchase-wise, us will always, always, own singapore. same for china.

Yes I understand :) Just pointing out that freight costs are not a significant portion of the cost when dealing with cameras which have a relatively small box that are shipped in bulk - as you mentioned, more to do with volume than anything.

in general, the same is true for all other brands as well - not just pentax. factoring in gst, etc.. and shipping, in the end importing something from america still costs slightly less, same as what emjay is doing.

i'm all for competitive pricing, but somewhere a line needs to be drawn between getting enough, and biting off more than we can chew.

this is a classic case of "give an inch, demand a foot". would you rather head back into really disparate days of shriro? ;)

Ermm what makes you think that you buy from a US website and they will ship the unit from place of assembly to you...........?

You are not buying direct from the manufacturer.....you are buying it from the reseller ie B&H here. So of course the unit will have to be shipped from the US and you incur the transportation cost from the US to singapore.......
