Welcome to White side !
haha
:bsmilie:

Hi, just bought my 350D yesterday from Harvey Norman - same price and package as Comex but got extra 2 year warranty. Happy with my pruchase, but trying to figure out how to use the creative modes..... Noob......

Anyway, here's a noob question:

Why is it that I have to press the shutter button twice when taking photo in the creative mode and only once in the auto mode? Is this normal?

Also, I can't shoot in continuous mode in the creative mode too..... nothing in the manual mentions these.....

Welcome and hope you enjoy it. Shoot more!

Aha... I understand liao.... I have the mirror lockup set to enable.....

Cant help but to ask why dont you get a 400D instead?

Well i guess thats because i did alot of research before on dpreview, and also base on info from clubSNAP postings, before i decided to get 350D.

And all of a sudden Canon announce 400D in COMEX, i decided to get 350D because i don't know much about 400D and its a few hundred dollars more expensive :D Maybe sounds kinda silly but i'm noooob

I find that the 350D is a good buy now. It's a good choice that will last you couple of years.
The 400D ultrasonic cleaning system and dust compensation software is just fancy mambo jumbo for now. All you need a good blower and you'll be done. Don't think the new features can wipe off stubborn "stains".

Just bought a 350d as well. It produces great pictures, don't bother with the 400d, it's not gonna make a difference. The only thing I like in the 400d that's not on the 350d is the AF point arrangement. Doesn't matter as long as you don't use it for events I guess.

IMO, the 9 point AF mattered to me because i do mainly event shooting. yup. i bought the 400D. need to focus fast!!

hi dude, me bought the EOS350D for $1510 net in May 06, I think you bought at the right time. So far, the camera serves me and not thinking of any upgrades. If you want to spent extra $$, spent it on a good set of lens after you shoot some pics and know your needs better. :D

The kit lens is lousy though...

I keep hearing people slam the kit lens, but I get great pics from it. Nice and sharp. I certainly don't hesitate to use it. Perhaps we should give it a chance? Of course you cannot compare apples with oranges. :sweatsm: $135 lens vs $1000-odd lens. :)

Welcome to the Canon family, cheeyt... :)

Those who claims the kit lens is lousy will probably not do better with a high-end expensive lens.

Those who knows how to create nice images from the kit lens are the ones who have acquired enough skills and experiences and worthy to be called a true photographer.

hi, can help explain what the 9 point AF does? and how it is useful during event shooting?

thanks!

This is generally personal preference. The arrangement of the AF pts in the 350d place the points in the 12o clock, 3, 6, 9 o clock positions. The 9 point AF has points in the 130, 430, 730, 1030 position, which I find necessary for my style of event shooting.

Naturally, if you can work with the positioning of the points in the 350d, it's great too. Many people used to produce great events pictures with a 10d. Some probably still do.

I bought the 350D a month ago & I am impressed with the kit lens. Granted, it feels plasticky w/ plastic mount, no distance scale & seems capable of breaking when putting & taking off the hood. But when I printed my pic on A4 of a bumboat about 70m away & I could see the licence no. clearly, I begin to wonder why so many people slime this lens. Perhaps they are put off by the cosmetics of the built rather than its optical capability.

The lens virtually has no coating on it. Colors and contrast pales to many other lenses.
But it's supposed to be "free" with the 350D, so nothing much to complain about.

Interesting to know of the lack of coating on the kit lens. Assume most people use a multi-coated UV/Skylight over the uncoated lens. Does this improve contrast/colour? Seeking enlightenment here.

Total bs. All Canon lenses use multicoated elements. Go grab your kit lens and see for yourself.
