Just wondering..Any nikonians crazy over manual nikkors like me and still use them?

I have a few old manual lenses, plus AF, few AF-D, and AF-G.

Present (Nikkors):
Non-AI 24/2.8 (converted to AI)
Non-AI 28/3.5 (converted to AI)
Non-AI 50/1.4
Non-AI 105/2.5
AI 28/2.8
AI 50/2
AIS 105/2.5
AI 43-86/3.5 (late model)

Tokina AIS 400/5.6

Bro.. dont need to list those that you owned, traded, sold before..
If everyone follow suit, i would have to go nikon japan get a 20 page checklist, slowly tick and list them alr

I sold away alot as well over time, esp those AF ones, cant keep too many..
Main working gear now AFS 17-35, AFS 28-70, AFD 80-200 F2.8s, and a few primes

i get by with the little green dot inside the viewfinder of my d50 (aka digital rangefinder) to tell me whether is the image in focus. not 100% accurate tho. beauty of digital - OOF, shoot again! :bsmilie:

I use it as well for manual lens above 85mm as well.. eyesight failing.
Though there is still a small range, but get used to it andits spot on.

Im currently testing the different manuals i have, getting used to their characteristics and creating custom curves in capture nx to reduce PP needed..

Nope... I have self control. Priorities first...

first priority: 85mm f1.4 AFD or AI/AIS
second priority: donno yet. 105mm f2.5 AI/AIS should do it!

Depends on your usage.. If birding then sure of cos..
I dont keep manual lens about 200mm.. except for the 100-300..
cos tele harder to MF, eyesight failing.. ;p

prob I wouldnt use either very often lol :bsmilie: my 80-200 also sitting pretty in the box most of the time now. Just thinking that 200 and 300 is not that big of a difference. Sell the 300 can pick up a 500/4P with a 85/2 with change to spare.

Well in that case i suggest u keep the 300.. At least 300 more chances of using than 500mm.. I can only think of mounting on a 2X TC and shooting moon.. which i alr did with my 300mm

You call that puny? HN-1, 2 and 3 already cover quite a number of 28mm and 35mm lenses. ;p

manual is the way to go!!

tried AF lens and somehow, just somehow, it does not give that 'kick' that i need.

maybe its because of my FM2.
I do not own a DSLR yet, but the FM2 gives an adrenaline rush that makes
me think twice about going digital.

that click of the apreture ring.
the 'stress' of focussing on time so that you get the right shot.
the effort to move forward and backwards cos you are the clown using prime when
the others are zooming with their fingers.

well, thats the kick that manual gives.

love my 105mm, 85mm, 50mm (E series), 28mm.
the ultimate fav is my 85mm 1.4. then comes the 105mm 2.5.

maybe the similarities that you guys will have is that we all like mechanical stuff. for eg
old vintage cars like the fords, volvos, merc, those from the 1950's and all.

My favourites (not counting the industrial Nikkors) have to be the Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2, UV-Nikkor 105/4.5, 45/2.8p and the el-cheapo 75-150mm E. Anything below 45mm, I use other brands.

MF lenses rule!!!

A side note/question... apart from the Noct, 35-70/2.8 and the 28/1.4, I don't know any other lens that are hand-polished. Can you name some additional ones? Thanks

oh man... 2 of the rarest kind of nikkors ard.. the noct and UV lenses.

Ya HN-1 for 24mm
2 for 28mm
3 for 35mm
5 for 50mm
and 24 for the 100-300 f5.6
probly need a few for >50mm range

Its without a doubt that generally the manual nikkors and full metal, solid like tanks and optically superb due to craftsmen hand polishing them in the past..

Wondering if anyone here shares a passion for them as well

haha.. yeah. i am one of them.... 28mm and 50mm.... both the manual nikkors... throw from 2nd floor is enough to kill a man already...

but aiyah the first lens i had is growing mushrooms already.. :cry:
