Just to share-My own Sigma 12-24

Its somewhere in the computer at home would have to dig really hard for it.

Its a problem with any ultra-wide lens when the subject distance between center and sides vary by so much. The edges tend to get smudged and smeared from the focus distance difference.

If you notice, the left edge does not have this problem, or at least its not evident because the planar distance between the subjects are so much less...

actually, the thing is at F11, almost everything should be in focus? The steps/barriers to prevent ppl from falling into the river on the right nearest to you actually look sharp, its the pointy roof of the esplanade that looks rather fuzzy.

haha...tot you were only recently complaining about vignetting on the 17-35 tamron lens on full frame...now you like vignetting :p

but yeah, i get what you mean, the vignetting frames the buildings and the shot nicely.

haha, cause i 1st time when in full frame , so i can't accept it kind of photos too much..

for now i will slowly to like it so much... haha :bsmilie:

If one wants really sharp for ultrawide at corner-to-corner even at f/2.8, then it's the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8.

Yeah so the bottomline is u pay for what u get and at $1.3K+ for the Sigma 12-24, the image quality is also very gd, even though still no match for Nikon's 14-24.

hey pal!~ mind sharing the shop name and as well as the price u got for this lense?

As those with issue like what other had mentioned, decenter or issue if sharpness which might cause by backfocus etc.

I believe dropping by sigma service center and get it calibrate will be a good choice..

If you're talking about the roofing on the Esplanade Theatre, its nothing to do with the lens nor the camera. Its because of the 'fuzzy' optical effect created by the individual panels being a little offset from each other from this point of view. If you look at any close up picts of the roofing panels taken by the people here in CS, regardless of whichever lens, you'll see that they look kind of 'fuzzy' when viewed from a distance.

nice shots.

now im more keen on selling my 16-35 for 12-24.

I ditched my 17-40 for this and so far absolutely no regrets. In fact, i enjoy using this lens more than the 17-40.

The 12mm is very w i d e. It is excellent for taking ultrawide landscape shot especially with dramatic clouds formations and blue sky. It stretches the clouds forward giving a very dramatic feel. I'll post some picts later tonight. I got addicted to the 12mm for landscape. As what kit mentioned, the sky looks more blue when I meter the highlights. This is great as I cannot fit a front GND on it anyway. I do appreciate the darker blue sky.

There are 3 aspects that I do not like about this lens
- control of flare can be better. So basically have to avoid shooting into the sun/bright light source
- can't fit a front filter. Rear gelatine filter are hard to get and expensive. They should have a built-in ND4 filter :)
- why can't Sigma add a shift/tilt mechanism to make this a shift lens :) It would have been perfect for a building lens.

The control of flare is not very gd due to the short hood.

Filters for this lens honestly i feel it's not very impt.

If it's a T/S lens, the cost will be very high and not many people know how to use it too.

Let's give this lens credit. There really isn't many lens that can do 12mm.

I only need ND filters to blur motion into the UWA shots such as "misty" waves across ocean, "silky" waterfall. I will test and post once I receive my rear gelatine 2 and 6 stop ND.

Ok then. :)

MWP,can share where and how much you pay for the gelatin filter?you got to cut down yourself?by the way,you realise on your pic has sensor dust expose fr f11 onwards? Time to clean sensor or clone it away in ps or lr.

I bought the Kodak Wratten gelatine filters from this ebay seller "gnelson2". The ND0.6 (2 stop) and ND2.0 (6 stop) cost US$40 and US$46 respectively. It comes in 75x75mm and you need to cut it down to size using template provided along with the lens. I couldn't find them in Peninsula though someone once mention it is available in CP. They are also available in www.tiffen.com but costs a lot more.

Yes, I know of the dust. Happens when I change lens outdoor and you can't do anything about it till back indoors. Too lazy to PS so just leave it there. :)

Another photo to bump up the thread :) Comeon pple, show the wide perspective of 12mm here.
