If pretty good is okay, then Olympus has it. However, I can't imagine someone giving high scores in the Olympics just because someone was pretty good. Isn't it all about being better?
How can something as objective as the Olympics be compared to something thats as subjective as photography? Lets assume we put the Pentax K10D and Olympus E-410 on the 'track' and let them 'run' to find out who is the best. If the 410 came in behind K10D, are the 410 immediately going to disown the system saying that its not better?! When discussing models and companies, its a matter of personal opinion and thats something that cannot be compared. Point for point, the 410 might be real crap compared to the K10D. But it does what the guy behind it wants it to do. And thats pretty awesome!
As far as I am concerned, Olympus introduced the FT standard in an attempt to unify all the standards. That didnt really work but thats really a good effort and kudos to the company. This was not even a monetary move since they could have potentially lost some market if canon, nikkon, pentax adopted this and started producing FT bodes and lenses which are cheaper. Who knows?!! They introduced Live View, which is now part of some Pro bodies. They have announced m-FT, which is absolutely brilliant for photography in general.
Whatever creative ideas that the companies today come up with are all to a certain extent monetary in motive. The question about whether they were passionate or not is something that shouldnt matter as long as, and I hope you agree with me, we get good, cool, funky, reliable stuff for cheap! Come on man, the 9-18 is up for grabs soon and now is not the time to wonder if Olympus is passionate or not
