Yea, don't think. Just shoot.

When i first bought D80, i didn't even know what is CS. i bought it cos of review on cnet.asia.

Hahaha, use to be a gadget freak.

And nearly want to sold it off when i realise how expensive this hobby gonna be.

But luckily i didn't.

The joy i get from photography is priceless. :)

Shoot more to share, bro~

After much hesitation and struggles, I finally give in to the temptation and bought my first Nikon camera - D300.

Hope that this will be a good beginning to a new hobby and not a white elephant. ;)

This is the beginning of many great moments to come... enjoy you camera!!!

Through the years, you never let me down.
You turned my life around.
The sweetest days I finally found with you......
And I'm so glad I stay right here with you through the years.

Kenny Rogers is right about Nikon cameras.

Thanks guys for all your encouragement.

I was tossing between Canon and Nikon at first but decide the later though it cost more. I start to carry it with me whenever I am on business trip (which is almost every week). Hopefully will pick up some skills along the way.

Heh.... that's a cool thought. Same boat as I am. Next thing to do is get a bag to put ur notebook and your camera kit and stuff.... Hee.... then u'd be poisoned deep deep as well.

Oh, you won't regret choosing Nikon, believe me. A couple of frens of mine "jumped ship" from the white team to the black team.

;)

Enjoy !

Oh man...I really loved that TVC. So true and simple in its core message.
Makes all the Nikon users feel all warm and fuzzy inside. =)

Already done that and ordered my copy of Aperture 2.0 for photo editing with my Macbook Air. ;)

BTW, do I really need to get SB900 since D300 ISO can go as high as 6400? :what:

It doesn't matter how high the ISO can go, u will still need a flash for use with different scenarios of shooting. Buying a camera without an external flash, to me it's like buying a high end PC and using a 15inch CRT monitor(pop-up flash). LOL! There's only so much you can do with ambient lighting. The real fun begins when u learn how to control artificial lighting and play around with it, plus the external flash will come in extremely useful when u are shooting indoors and at night.
Think you should try buying a SB-800, which is still a darn impressive flash, first before u decide to spend that extra money on the SB-900.

Totally agree !

I have a D40x and bot a SB600 just to play around first. Waiting also for the price for the higher end units to drop..... figured that by the time I am ready, the SB600 can become the slave and I will get something else to (SB800/900) to be the commander. Of cos, I'd prob invest in a new body then as well..... D90 , D400 ?

Someone wrote in this forum a very very good advice before : "Dont buy it unless you need it and am going to be using it." I think this helps to save my wallet. haha....

Can tell me why Nikon better? I bought a D80 over the Canon 40D and I seem to be having regrets.

Tell me I made the right choice.........I need re-assurance. :sweatsm:

I reassure you.. You have made the right choice.. Congratulations!! Does that help? ;p

Hahaha...... let me offer more.....

Couple of points, some mebbe more personal and nitpicky, but hey, I am entitled my own opinion ....

1. Shutter sound - Tried Canon shutter sound. Even my D40x sounds way better than my fren's 400D.
2. Feel - I handled both before, but somehow, the overall feel of the Nikon D40x, D70, D80, D200, D300, D700 feels better than the 350D, 400D, 450D, 40D.
3. Price - This is from a fren. We all complain about how freaking expensive Nikon lens are, but I was informed that Canon is worse..... My fren figured out that if she got the basic set of lenses she needed from Nikon (Zoom, Long Zoom, Portrait, UWA) + a D300, it's about the same price as the lenses from Canon without a body. FREE D300 ? True not true ? Dunno. But sure made me feel good hearing this.
4. Colours - Prefer the non-saturated colours from a Nikon. Canon is too much saturation for me. My frens look "faker" in the pix. Haha....

There you go. But then again. I am biased. haha.....

Let's not make this another N vs C thread. There are already too many of it and vice versa. Just shoot more with what you have.. If you're not getting the kind of output you want, then evaluate yourself and see if any post processing can help. ;p Don't blame the equipment unless you're using it for professional purposes. ;p

very true... journey of no return for your bank account... hahahaha... as said earlier, don't jump in on all the lenses and accessories at one go. Master one, then add another, the journey continues.

got mine in mar... never have so much exercise in my life carrying the camera and capturing moments. love it!!!

Whether N or C is good all boils down to you...... why you bought the D80???? You must have tried both................ so there you have it..... you try both and you choose D80...... this goes to show you prefer N................. most of us at one point or other will be in similar situations........ but after trying out both.... usually one will have the answer...........

Thanks for the soothing words and re-assurances.

Not a C vs N thing. Already on the N camp. Just want to make all N users feel happy with N system.

GO N SYSTEM!! YOU ROCK!!!

But all said and done, I am pleased with my D80 and 18 - 200 VR lens. Many have commented that 18 - 200 is not sharp, distortion monkey etc and D80 has poor noise control blah blah.............but when I view my pictures even if taken at ISO 800, I am still a happy shooter.

but when I view my pictures even if taken at ISO 800, I am still a happy shooter.

be careful there.... bro here will posion you with a D3/D700 piktures and you WILL sink deeper into the Dark SIDE........ Be Warned!!!!!

I have been a Nikon (and Fuji) user for 27 years. Keep in mind that I use the Canon 1Ds MkIII and Canon 5D at work. Regardless, I still love my Nikon.

I have just two words of reassurance for you - RELIABILITY and DEPENDABILITY of Nikon products.
