Joining the 'L' Family

I have not buy yet, tonight meeting seller. I am just afraid that I will need to recalibrate my 16-35L once more. The WA lens was bought beginning of the year as an used set, then when tried on my 30D it became soft due to previous owner used a 1D series camera. So then I bought the WA lens to Canon to recalibrate.

But now since I am buying the 5D, so the 16-35L has to be recalibration once more because the previous re-cal was done to adjust the lens for a 1.6x body. Canon also told be if I do another round of re-cal, this time round the lens will be suited for both 1.6x and FF body.

i'm interested in how they recalibrate. do they recalibrate the lens for your body or your body for the lens?

But I called up Canon they said if I bought the 5D from the seller, I might need to take the 16-35L back to re-calibrate so that both 30D and 5D can use.

WTFreak;(... I still need another 70 bucks before I can enjoy my 5D with the L

Then u might as well get the mark II, cos the first gen 16-35 have some problems.

No Vit M leh...

Anyway I just got my 5D. Really happy. I have tested with the lens and I feel it is ok. :bsmilie:

Tomorrow I posted some photos to let you see see. Generally I think a little sharpen will be needed after my inital tests. :)

Hi all,

The test from last night. Well, I know composition sucks but this is the test shots. Focus points at the number '85'...

Comments are welcome on the 5D + 16-35L mk I. Please help me 'judge' to see if it is acceptable for the lens sharpness :)

Some more pics of test shots from 16-35L + 5D...

Taken on my way to work

Taken while bored...

Cropped 100%

All shots were taken with 16-35L @ f2.8

I feel ok with the sharpness so far. Thus my worries were too much.

what are you trying to proof here??? This is a total OT.....

Huh? What off topic... Brother, we were discussing 16-35L mk I plus 5D issues. Please read thru the posts before you comments. Thanks. :)

My work also involves working with the camera so DSLR is my rice bowl... :)

Due to some issues with my company, I am buying my own 5D for my own purposes so that I wont have to loan from my present company for professional practices...

I can see you have a good profession owming some great Ls... :D

The comment was given after reading through all your comments....emphasis was on the body not the lens....

If i'm working full-time photography as a profession, i'd go straight for the 1Ds MKIII.

Great Ls? Nah, they're nothing that great. :bsmilie:

My company cant buy the 1Dsmk3 for students to use, so I can only dream on :) But 5D is enough for me now.

I think the next L I am looking into might be the 24-105 f4L or the 24-70 f2.8L...

Due to the reason the 16-35L is err... too wide, but will still it :)

I don't think it's too wide cos it's great for sceneries and landscapes/buildings. Ever since i got my 5D, my 17-40 is always full time on it and also always walk around with it. I just love wide angle! ;)
