No. A 'brighter' lens will depend on the largest aperture of the lens. The main differences between L lenses and regular ones are the contrast and colour of the outcome due to elements in the lenses such as UD, Super UD and Fluorite. The latter being present in the white tele Ls. Also construction of Ls are more well-built and inclusion of weather-sealing in some of them.

i see.. so its more durable in the sense. Sorry but wat is UD? So I assume the Flourite n UD helps to improve the colour range somehow?
