John316 Not Authorised Dealer

Hi Guys,

Just called up CSC to check on the online warranty and PwP. I got my 60D from J316 and was just calling CSC to check their opening timing for tomorrow. Also asked them about collecting the 6 million dollar crumpler bag when I do the online warranty thingie.

To my surprise, the service person over the phone informed me that J316 is not an authorised dealer so I am not entitled to the free gift neither am I entitled to the PwP.

Is this misinformation? I was told my J316 that it will not be problem collecting direct from CSC.

Any advice?

Go back to J316 and ask them for explanation.

What the authorised dealers do is that the can have their own network of resellers (in Singapore) that takes the cameras from them (the authorised dealer) to sell it at their shops. eg John 3:16 is not Nikon Sg authorised dealer, but they take their Nikon stuff from one of the authorised dealer to sell. As far as warranty is concerned it is warranted by Nikon Sg as the camera is from Nikon Sg. So in this example, it is perfectly ok to buy from John 3:16.

Hmmm... funny. I bought my 7D some time ago from John and also went to CSC at harbourfront to collect my free gifts... no problem at all. I didn't even bother giving CSC a call, just go there and they give me the gift, no question asked.

Come to think of it... as long as the set I bought is legit local sets... I don't see there would be a problem. I remember giving CSC the receipt that John handed to me, and I collected my Canon bag, tripod and 1 free battery.

Should have as John 3:16 is quite a reputable shop.Think it is better to go down there ASAP to clarify with them.Cheers!

A friend bought his 600D from Jo316 last IT Fair, and CSC honored the redemption of the crumpler bag.

yes. all local sets are in fact, consigned. based in serial number, they are able to tell this unit was assigned to which auth dealer.

Pls dont see John 316 so up..... They are only good coz alot of ppl are promoting them in forum.

In fact they are only a reseller. They get their stuff from other shops, even from Bally and others.

So beware of "famous" shops in forums

Yup John is not under Canon's list of authorized dealer.I believe they import most of their goods & may even get it from their neighbours.The shop could be overly rated due to their friendly approach to customer,always greeting with a smile & very forthcoming.Other than that,I am not so sure about them because their price aren't the cheapest around too.Just my 2 cents.

J316 takes stock from other shops around in Funan. That is a known fact. They do not "import most of the goods".

i guess it is fine to get equipment from any shop so long the warranty is covered by the manufacturer itself....
