Why John 316 is so popular is their price is reasonable, and they are personalised in their service. But their personalised service is also causing some new customer frustration as they are not use to this.

You got to think of J316 as the kopitiam or sundry shop that you visit every day for the past 10 years... squeeze yourself in, poke your neck around, chit chat with the customer there, say hi to Sam, be relax a bit. If you want fast & curteous (but inpersonal) service, go to McDonald, if you want your favorite cha-quay-teow, be prepare to wait a bit, squeeze a bit. And if you want a CF/SD card, just cut-through the crowd and find a break in the sales person servicing customer, be specific and get out. If you're in a hurry, don't bother with cha-quay-teow store with long que lah, just buy from any store...

Also it doesn't mean higher prices means better services and vice versa

You can pay high prices and still get gruff services if the sales people there are like that. So go to the best priced store, if two stores have the same price, go to the gruff one if your neck hair is sensitive. Go to the smooth talking one if neck hair not so sensitive.

J 316 is a unique camera shop. U get very personalized service and u also get a lot of entertainment while u are there. I do not think it is a bad shop to go to. How many camera shops can remember your face or your name in SIngapore?

I just don't understand. You are not happy waiting to wait (over 45 min.) to buy a small item (as you mentioned). Then, why do you still go there? Is the item so unique no other shops has stock? Or, J3:16 is selling so cheap that you HAVE to get it from them? In that case, you shouldn't complaint since you are getting a good deal.

coz ive got no choice... no stock on other shops.. and i really need to used it on that day. ITS COMMON SENSE, why would i wait there for 45 minutes if the other shops have it?
and im not complaining, ive just told the TS how they handle the callers.

I wonder about Sam's uncanny ability to remember names. Few months ago was there with a friend, he knows my friends name and my friend had not visited his shop for several years.

what is the best time to visit them? i meant where there is less people? definitely not on weekends. how about mondays/tuesdays just after they open shop? around 10/11am?

Avoid lunch time btw 12-2pm, and avoid 6-8pm, other then that, it's quite ok.

I think J316 is a good shop although i never buy from them
the shop is "different"
like some CSer said, their service is personalized that's why you will not get an immediate response

I went there few weeks ago, looking for Nikon D90. End up Sam was offering me 7D and he even open up the box and showing me the features. The shop was full and for newcomer you may hesitant with the number of crowds there. But again, once you're "into" it with, you will feel that the service is "different" in a good way.
Anyway, I didn't buy anything from that shop as my budget was limited at that time. But, i'll say it's one of the good shop around here

To simplify, you cannot just walk in and buy the stuff you want.
Their personalized service will take some time

Well, I have nothing but good stuff to share on my experience with them. Was there last weekend for the first time in my life. I was hunting for the best deal available for the D300S together with my wife. Shop was relatively crowded with about 7-8 customers milling around. Then Jeremy offered his assistance. When I told him I was looking for a D300S, he immediately rattled off the specs and price list. He even offered to open up a box and let me try it out. And yes, the price they offered me that day was the cheapest of all the shops me and wifey went to that day. If not for my wife, I probably would have handed over my credit card!

If you're reading this Jeremy, you did great. But I have already got my D300S. By a magnificent stroke of luck, I managed to get it at a hefty discount thats about $500 cheaper. I felt kinda guilty but its a real bit of money what 500 buckeroos can do. Thank you for your service, and I will drop by sometime next month, I feel that I must buy something from you after that day.

I have had two bad experiences in this John 316. Will not say specifics because it is already over and done. But it is in my opinion that I do not like the way the place is run and will not be going there for any future purchases.
