i hate to say this but aft hearing this kind of thing, it really makes me wonder whether J316 is honest. no doubt it was well-meant and everyone's happy but it's still kind of under table isn't it?

kind of like my tamron warranty issue i posted earlier

sorry i dont get your drift here but why is J316 not honest if they help customer to sell off their lens? customers can either sell off the kit lens on their own, for e.g. on CS, or consign it to be sold at some shops or sell straight to second hand shop. IMHO, J316 is just providing a convenience for the customers so that they can avoid the hassle of selling it on their own. As long as they make it known to the buyer that it's from some kit set and it's cheaper than buying it standalone. Should be ok mah. :)

It means all the camera shops are making much bigger bucks from us :bsmilie: *no offend* hehe.

It has been 4 weeks and I have yet to receive a call from Leslie regarding my warranty card.
Gonna call up my "bro" and give him some "loving".

Finally got my issue resolved.
I went down to ask about my situation and Sam allowed me to exchange my lens for a new one.

I went down today, did the exchange, verified the new lens serial number and is a happy customer.

Yes, the exchanged lens had 1 spec of dust in the front element but it's at the edge and upon verification with Canon, it came as part of a kit set (someone probably sold the lens back, or it was deducted from the sale, or rejected due to the slight dust issue).

Nonetheless, I'm happy that John 3:16 allowed me to have my lens exchanged and gladly accepted the apology from Sam.

I don't know, but I even got recognized as a regular customer when I only bought 2 items from them:bsmilie:

Though the waiting time is long, and the prices might be slightly higher sometimes, it's a good place to meet people and talk :)

lol, maybe John3:16 should start a coffee counter and serve coffee. Might sell more coffee than Starbucks. lol. We can go there and sit down and talk cork over coffee whilst waiting our turn.

Good for you but what will happen to the returned lens in the shop ?

I heard them saying that they will send it back to Canon.
Im not too sure. We can only speculate here. Maybe they will let it go as a "grey" set to someone. My lens was in brand new condition. No dust, no user marks, just without it's own warranty card.

My experience being a newbie. Sam is a nice guy, I did not get my D90 frm him last time as his stock did not arrived. Even after knowing that I get a D90 from CP he still serves me when I got a dry cabinet/ prime lens from him.

Unlike CP, I gotten my D90, 70-300mm lens, etc a lot more from CP. The customer service that serve me suck big time. She did not even bother to look at us or "serve" me when I am hunting around for a 7D. She thought my frd and I will not be getting anymore stuff since we already spend so much in CP.

Recently I got rid of the D90 and I went back to 3:16 to get the 7D. No issues at all. Very nice people they have there. All very patient to explains the know-how to newbies like me. In the end, my frd and I each bought a 7D from him and leave a happy customer.

My advice is: yes, they are not the cheapest around but why save a few 20-30 dollars when you are already spending big ticket item..yes, they are always packed with people but does that also show something? It means people are going back for the great customer services..I would rather wait and sometimes while waiting we can get some good advices from the customer there too being a newbie.

PS: I would like to stress I am not afflicted with Sam nor his team. Just want to comment on some good services that my frd and I had gotten.

I have been to john3:16 a couple of times and while i thought they charge pretty steep prices as compared to other shops, sam is a honest guy who offer me his honest opinion. if doesn't suits my needs he tells straight me don't waste my cash. I haven't bought anything major there but obviously its crowded for a reason :)

Sam once told me, honesty keeps the customers coming back. If you read the Blue Ocean Strategy by the Harvard Business Schoo you realized, price is never an value element or rather its the less important =)

yayayaya...totally agreed. I actually was surprised when I heard him saying to one of the customer not to buy extra battery first since the new one can last for 700 shots. :) That is funny. :D

haha, that could be me he was talking to. I bought a D90 from Sam and was considering an exra battery. He told me no need as the battery can already take more than 700 shots. No need to waste money, he says.

The D90 was my first purchase with J316 and I must say that I enjoyed the service provided by Sam even though his shop was packed at the moment. He even got one of his regular customer to help show me the camera before purchase.

Kudos to a good shop and an even better sales person.

Quite common in Singapore people will go to the shop which offers the lowest price. Service worth nothing to them.

You also see people here mentioning they will go to J3:16 for advice and then go to another shop to buy because it is $20 cheaper there.

err, not really.

i buy from the shop who give me the professional info i need, even if they are more expensive.

but if they are not familiar with the things they sell, then, it's lowest price seller wins.

Just got my 500D from them :]

Today I called most of the shops and most of them didn't had my kit II.
I lost hope until I called Canon and they told me to try Bally's.
Man, that was a bad idea, lol.

I always like J316 for their service as I've tried their cameras many times and even I do not buy from them, they still served me with good service, give me advice, etc.
Sometimes they'd even suggest you getting a 2nd hand from this forum.

So the first shop I went to today was J316 and they also told me no stock,
feeling reluctant, I went to Bally's to check out.
I took quite some time searching for the shop and realize it's the shop I always dislike, lol.
Oh well. When I arrived and asked for price, they told me a different story again.
In the afternoon when I called, they refused to disclose the price. They say would at least be $200 cheaper than Canon.
Kiss my behind, in the end he wanna sell me more than $2k.
He said that now Canon changed to selling the body and lens separately, therefore the price difference.
Pissed, I decided to just walk away and go back to J316.

I was actually in a rush to get the camera as I'm going overseas in like 2 weeks time.
And Canon mentioned having the stock at the END OF THE MONTH! Which I'd have already returned! Lol.

I went to J316 and wanted to reserve or place an order for my 500D kit II,
and I told them I will wait.
In the end they told me they will take the 50D Kit II's 18-200mm and swap for me.
So I got it today :]
Even though I didn't get any special prize or any freebies,
I still am a happy customer.
They gave me a 50D bag, the usual stuff.
I asked if I needed the speedlite 220 Canon offers he said it's not really that good, lol.
Ask me to save the money and get something like the 50mm 1.8f lens which I wanted to get.
I also asked if I need to get a spare batt and once again he said it's not necessary.

The 50mm 1.8f lens is currently out of stock and I'm heading down tomorrow to get it with the book they 'owed'.

Another happy customer despite all the waiting.
