John 3:16 don't recommend Pentax camera???

I went there a few times, they nv have tried to talk me out of pentax but they always quote price so high.

After a while I give up even gg there.. Plus I don't like their style. Prefer OP much more.

i dont patronise John 3:16. So wont comment or guesstimate their biz model.

But OP to me is more like a cafe without the coffee. i usually go there to see2 and chit chat with the sales assistants. but always ended up spending some $$. sometimes i even see ppl bringing in their photos in their ipad to show to the SA. OP really have that cosy feel of a neighbourhood shop, although it is located in town.

i bought my k-x and dual-lens kit from there, and then some the blower and some other stuff... while i like their prices and professionalism, never felt its a place to chit-chat...

I prefer slr-r

Usually will accompany friend to go there if they want buy photography stuff . Then will chit chat with Ray.

At the end of the day, better do some research online such as reading from the forums, some reviews from DPreview.com etc. Most of my friends suan me by saying, using lousy pentax brand etc. I dont feel dishearten as it is good for a starter like me and value for money. I dont like to pay more money towards some C brand's marketing too. As for 3rd party lenses, I have covered my range such us Tamron UWA 10-24 and 28-300 as it meet my needs. just my 2 cents. :)

its a bait and switch tactic.

they will tell u that they must confirm the sale before they go get u a copy from another shop and u must buy it... while u think, they may try to bamboozle u with their pitch on why pentax ah, C and N is better ah, etc etc...

pure rubbish.

they probably think that they're being "honest" by selling only established brands and steering customers to these products. coincidentally, these are also the products that gives them the best margins :bsmilie:

exactly. i encountered the same thing from this particular guy recently. asked for this 'brand' n this particular model n i was shocked when he answered me that it is really lousy or watever. i said thanks n walked away. its like putting down other brands just becos he doesnt sell it n FYI, i did my homework n it was a gd camera.

i hope they change their signboard n dont tarnish the reputation of OUR religion!

What's the big deal? These guys are entitled to have their own views. If you can't find what you want, just move on.

But what if I want small, compact, near Leica-quality primes? There's only one brand to go for that then.

Do you mean Fuji X100 :D

Reading the 1st post i can't find that John said anything about lousy, it's just about accessories that are hard to get.
I believe Pentax is a good brand, any old photographer knows how good pentax is, but since the market share is less than canikon, they have to be careful to invest if don't want end up bankrupt.

nb: I almost buy a K-5 at friday since i saw SLRR has 3 units, but the next day they're all sold out (someone from the outing buy it ?)

It has been answered, and yet you are still asking...

are you refering to pentax? I'm just curious to see what output pentax can produce, because if I did not started out with the dark side (dad's influence) I may very well be a pentax user already.

Yes, I'm referring to high-end Pentax primes which are unique in terms of focal length and size: ultra-compact, sharp, high-quality build and optics (with all metal barrels). They're arguably the best street shooter lenses around, the bodies too.. besides the Leica ones (which is on a whole different level anyway, price-wise at least).

Just google for "DA Limiteds" or "FA Limiteds" to see their size and looks (very 'pretty'!).

And as for output, let the photos speak for themselves.. just look around my photo gallery for samples (almost all my photos are taken using Pentax primes), or the photo galleries of the Pentaxian community here.

Cheers!

Well they are first and foremost running a business, and trying to sell their products. I have been there previously to be talked out of certain Nikon cameras as well because they do not stock them. Do your homework and be firm with what you have worked out in mind. I personally have no shop loyalty, who gives me the better price and they have a customer.

I would take what was said about Pentax with a grain of salt. Certainly the comments of one individual does not necessarily mean that the whole organization feels the same way. If one individual from Singtel told you that Nokia or Sony-Ericsson or Apple phones are useless does that mean that all of the Singtel organization feels the same way?

Two years ago I was at John 3:16 to buy a Canon 7D. I was also told by one individual that I should buy the "better" Canon 5D MkII rather than the Canon 7D. I thanked him for his "opinion", and bought the 7D regardless.

Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, black, white, yellow, red... what does it matter?

aiyo... dig up such an old thread for what? :dunno:

some shops stock Brand A and like to push Brand A, some shops stock Brand B and like to push Brand B. its a fact of life and a standard business practice. why would they try to sell u something they don't have stock for? they'll definitely try to steer you to something they have so they can clock the sale mah :bsmilie:

some consumers appreciate such recommendations, some regard it cynically and do not like it.

just go to the shop that treats you the way you like, stocks the brand you want to buy, and offers it for a reasonable price lor. :what:

haha some kopitiams i go to tell me 'no coke, pepsi can hor?" and i have no choice but to drink pepsi lor.. :bsmilie:

John 3.16 deal with Canon or Nikon,

hahahaha.......put it simply lah, pentax demand too small and slow. in this fast changing world, stock kenna stuck = money down the drain.

J316 will get it for you if you want, but i don't think they will want to stock a slow moving item.

maybe they should stop promoting canon. check out the original name of canon.

But Pentax....
Ah... the PENTAGRAM....
Pentagram
Witch craft; Occult; Devil

Each Pentax has a pentagram shaped pentaprism as its very soul.
Housed in the strongest of magnesium alloy.
The tool of the devil!

So now you know....
Don't blame them too much :D

as a member of this forum, i feel compelled to point out that while we are having a good laugh over something we feel to be inane or harmless, it doesn't hurt to be a little thin-skinned where issues of religion or culture is concerned.

this discussion already raised a bit of irritation in the earlier pages when pple made careless references to religion so may we observe sensitivities before things get out of hand please?

But that is the original name of the company as Poseur rightly pointed out. Some can be sensitive to religion but being in a multicultural society, we need to be careful of where we thread.

I am a Catholic but I also see the funny side of the discussion that has been going on for the last 3 pages of this thread. One should not get overly sensitive about one's religion too.
