When someone has worked so hard and become famous, I guess, inevitably, people will just give their 2 cents worth irregardless of whether they worth anything at all.

I guess, the reason why he attracts so much criticism from here is because there are probably bus loads of people who are very jealous of his gears and think that the pictures are not justified by the gears and the the photographer is not worthy of the camera.

Let alone he posted the pictures on his personal web site and he is free to post anything he likes on his personal blog. Do the pictures on facebook need to have artistic value at all?

I am not a die hard fan of his, but I do admire his talent, his music, his attitude and how he worked so hard to be where he is today.

Sadly to say, very few Singaporean musician have gained so much international recognition like him. And he is one of the few Singapore artist that can perform on the Chinese New Year eve celebration in China CCTV channel watched by a billion Chinese in mainland China.

Don't any Singaporean few proud that someone with the same pink IC that we are holding have done something for our small little country?

Let's be kinder to one another on the internet. What you say, though don't carry any worth, but it shows how graceful and respectful we are to one another.

yes, i am proud of that.........

but if you ask me to pretend that the pictures are good, then i cannot stomach lying or pretending that i think they are not bad.

it is as simple as that. as you mention, maybe when someone is famous people bother to give 2 cents. but that's part and parcel of becoming a celebrity, none of them are spared from it.

no one said ansel adams had to sing well either. no one said HCB had to dance well. i am sure if you placed ansel adams on american idol he would probably FLOP. if you placed HCB in "so you think you could dance" he might be a laughing stock.

we must learn to compartmentalise comments on a person - and apply it to ourselves. when someone comments on a certain aspect of your life (say, your photos), then it really doesn't reflect anything more than that aspect.

do i think jj lin can sing? i don't know. i don't really care. i see that he can sell his albums, and he is singaporean, like you mentioned.

do i think he is handsome, of course not.

do i think he deserves to buy a m9, that's his money.

do i think his m9 pictures are good and maximizing the capability of that m9? this is something i know about, and i can say : no, no, no.......... and no one should really take anything else into account when commenting on the pictures, because they are just pictures after all. is it a character assasination? nope. have we spoken anything that is blatantly wrong, don't think so.......

do i think that jj lin should care about the comments here? not really. if he bought the m9 to play, and to use as a p&s with rangefinder style focus....... that's his choice.

just my 2 cents, cheers.

p.s. kindness is overrated, with every person who speaks the truth that his photos are half-baked..... there will be another who will look past all that and think that they are the bomb.

Bro, just be more humble and share your knowledge .
If u really so good with ur pics , pls do us Singaporean proud.

I do like to think, respecting others is like respecting myself. No need to be so extreme.

Everyone has to start somewhere, gear is not the issue here.

It takes time to learn to shoot/compose correctly. Rome wasn't exactly built in a day.

This is Clubsnap's RF and Compacts forum, not ClubFlameJJLin, please get back on track.

If you have comments on how he can improve his photography, please go post it on his blog.

I think this thread was started based on the fact that a celebrity is using RF, which is only a good thing for the RF scene. The photography critique would be secondary.

But isnt that exactly what we are NOT doing in this thread???

i can only speak for myself:

he needs to post the photos up in critique corner, CS. :bsmilie:

i wonder if he is aware of all these comments here. he will be :bheart:.

and this is after all, still about photos, in a way... :bsmilie:
when you are a xmm and you are in love with jj lin..

then everything he does is good.

he go to toilet, you will stand outside and say "very fragrant!"
he fall down, you will say "done with great style!"
he break his wrist, you will say "good move, it's time for a rest!"
he fart, you will say "so melodious!"

there is humble, and there is humble.

pretending that person x's photos are not horrible when they are, to me, that is not humility, that is false humility, hypocriscy, and that is just as disgusting as being arrogant..... perhaps more disgusting, because you are being pretentious.

i would like to think that if you respected somebody, you would keep in mind that he would be big enough to take honest comments.. all of my close friends always know that they can make comments to me about anything they have a view on, even if it's me, aspects of my life.. it's a kind of trust. but i suppose not everyone can see that.

anyways, i've said what i wanted to say, i'm outta here.

Good Riddance.

I started this thread as I found it very interesting that a Singaporean star is interested in photography, esp. rangefinders. Didn't realise it would stir up a bit of controversy, like the thread in Kopitiam about kids with pro gear

I admit I'm jealous of his gear, and his MUSICAL talent :bsmilie:, but I think JJ posted his pictures on his blog just to share his love of the M9. It's his fans who think he's HCB reborn. Anyway, you must admit, M9's out of focus pictures still look much better than PnS's out of focus pictures.

It doesn't really matter whether a Ferrari owner is a lousy driver. A camera is just a consumer product that anyone with money can buy. JJ doesn't have to account to us whether he'll utilise it properly or not. At least he's using it, instead of keeping it in a dry box :bsmilie:

I still feel good that a celebrity is showing his love for photography...

Guys there is no need for the discussion to take a turn towards the "good riddance" and "second that" comments.

If you guys are no longer interested in discussing the photography then I guess the thread has served is purpose and is messy in its current form anyway. If you wish to continue a relevant conversation then please start a new thread; I'm closing this one.
