in tokyo/osaka....

some digicams are slightly cheaper (depending on exchange rates) but most are more expensive. for accessories, they have more choices, some are cheaper, some you cannot find locally in singapore, some are more expensive...so depending on what you want to buy.

normally i would buy stuffs like canon500D, nikon SD-8a, nikon eyepiece set, body cap, lens cap, camera straps...etc...all these small items...they're much much cheaper than singapore, and even cheaper than ordering from B&H, or any online stores..

generally, camera bodies, lenses, imported bag, imported tripods..or anything imported, are more expensive in tokyo.

not sure about rest of japan.

Any specific area in Tokyo that you recommend? I'm making a trip there on my wedding anniversary and I hope to get some rare accessories.

TIA

Wah, Vicent, going on a second honeymoon? You can try Akihabara loh... the usual place. But prices in Japan are so homogenous, not much difference between shops one. You can just walk into any Yodobashi Camera and still get a good deal. The things to look for are old cameras, they are in really good shape most of the time and some are quite cheap.

well, different parts of tokyo, prices may not be the same. for camera stuff, go to shinjuku station (this station is big), and look for west or south exits...
there're yodobashi camera main brinach, mapcamera, sakuraya, biccamera...all there.
mapcamera is by far the cheapest (by few dollars or more), cos they have all the "giant" stores surrounding them.

don't go akihabara for camera stuff...go there only for computer and electronics/home appliances stuff.

most (if not all) 2nd hand stuff (camera, lenses, tripod, memory storage) there are more expensive than singapore, though the condition are good.

if you want to look only for nikon stuff...go to this shop in ginza (the prices is not cheap due to the location - ginza - the most expensive rental in the world), but you might find some good deals there, depending what you're looking for.

shop retail price is about SG1.7K in tokyo...but if you check with www.kakaku.com , you may be able to find cheaper...maybe not in tokyo.

D70 is selling almost about the same price, or cheaper...and with local warranty.

as for economical canon 3/4mp cams...you can consider the A80, IXUS400...etc...all with local warranty.

Fanatastic! Thanks for the picture. I will definitely print it out and show to the Japanese folks just in case my limited Japanese vocab fails on me.

I'll look around (since I'm using Nikon) before going to Ginza. I don't mind if it is a bit expensive, especially I don't have much time to spend looking for stuff.

rncw, thank you very much!
