Jammed Film In Developing Reel

I had problem before but not last night.
I did three rolls loading from the front.

The only new thing I did was to dry the reels with a hair dryer.

PS. One of my reels dropped on the floor and the ball bearing came off:confused: Need to buy a new one now:(

lol! I actually also dropped one of my reels last night but the ball bearing is still intact

royale,

I know what you mean. I kept getting erratic jams on my reels and I began to suspect one of the reels was not alright or too humid...

My reels after 150+ rolls was very dirty and had black edges. I got it cleaned with a toothbrush and gawd-knows what detergent. The reels was cleaned white again.

The problems has disappeared, for now. I dunno if it is due to dirty reels.

sometimes, problems like this makes me very paranoid...

your store room is dark enough? did u do any extra light sealing? my store room has those slats at the top which i think would let light in. very leceh if i were to have to cover them up with curtains n such.

Last night I did 2 rolls at once. I do this in the store room with the door shut instead of in the dark bag where movement is rather restricted.

Just an update on this one guys.

I confirm loading the film by the end instead of the start is easier & I've re-solved all my film jamming in the reel problems.

Last night I did 2 rolls at once. I do this in the store room with the door shut instead of in the dark bag where movement is rather restricted.

Lay dark changing bag on the floor & pull the full reel of film & lay it on the dark bag, floor could be dusty, so lay on dark changing bag.
Pull out entire length of film, cut & round the edges in the dark then feed into the reel.

Of course, before you off the lights in the store room, just remember where you position your scissors, developing tank & reels

Sorry i only just saw this thread.

I always pull the entire roll out and load it the other way round. Works all the time. 100%. I do about 6 rolls a week. I think i has something to so with curvature of the film.

Btw I use paterson, samigon and photax reels. Photax is 20 years old already, heavily stained but still no problem.

Yep, store room is dark enough, I just have to shut the doors & its fine as my store room doesnt have windows.

Hi guys

just wanna check. Lately for the past 2 consecutive rolls of film, I've experience my film jamming up in the reel while reeling it half way.

Extremely frustrating. I did cut the leader & rounded the ages of the film before feeding into the reel.
Could it be the my reel are screwed? I've got no other explanation...... Tried 2 different reels but same problem? :dunno:

The reels honestly look physical fine to me except its slight yellowish tint due to lots of developing.

I'm using the AP reels that came with the tank.

ball bearing has problem. try maintaining the ball bearing. remove the oxidation/stain by scrapping it...

usually the reels need to soak in tap water for awhile and dry up on a drainer overnight just to prevent the stain on the reel and the ball bearing. In fact all this stain added up to the jamming of the film. When the ball catches the square hole, it needs some space to roll over to the next square. so if the ball is stain, there is practically little space to smoothen your roll continuously.Same goes to the reel slits which mayne tinted by the developer/fixer not being washed/soaked properly & dried!
