Ixus 850

Not only are the high ISO shots quite poor quality, the lens/CCD combination generally produces quite soft images, as compared to the Fuji F11. Even my Canon A610 (1/1.8" CCD) produced sharper images.

So have to post-process quite intensively (noise-reduction, edge sharpening) until the results become acceptable (but can look a bit "fake").

Not one of my favourite cameras. Should have listened to my instincts and not get tempted by mpenza.

can anyone comment of night shots with IS on?

or better still, post some pics? preferably with humans in it?

so for day shots as long as ISO 200 and below, it is great quality right?

Hi StreetShooter,

I am prepared to get the ixus 850 until i read about your comments that is making me to ponder.
I am not a professional photographer and need a PnS camera that has good quality photos without require to edit prior to develop the photos.

It sounds like u have condemned 850 ... is it really so bad.

Anyone can second to streetshooter's comment of he is too pro for a 850 :p
Is Fuji F31FD really so good as compared to f31FD?
The reason i chose 850 over f31 is mainly due to the wide angel and outlook and branding as i do know abt iso.

thanks.

the ixus850is is a good enough camera. each cam will have its own detractors. if u need wide angle, go for it. If u need high ISO, go for the f31fd. it's a whole balance. neither are perfect cams. buy what u need

Ixus850

Pros
- 28mm wide angle
- image stabiliser
- stylish looks
- Decent ISO performance till ISO400
- ISO800 just usable for 4R prints

Cons
- corner softness (hardly noticeable unless u print real big)
- average battery life
- more expensive than f31fd
- lower resolving power from lens/CCD combination (hardly noticeable as well unelss u print big)

Fuji f31fd

Pros
- Damn sharp at f/2.8
- Excellent batt life of 550 shots (lasted me 1 week on holiday and i still had 2 bars left)
- ISO400 = ISO200 on the ixus
- ISO800 is excellent
- ISO1600 can still give u good 4R prints
- ISO3200 can still print a 4R shot

Cons
- Stupid Chrome mode (in my humble opinion)
- Bad CA
- 36mm FOV
- big(ger)
- high resolving power of lens/CCD

you decide. personally, i would go for the fuji anytime.

Hi there, for those ixus 850 users. actually how do you find the usage of the camera, friendly-user or ??? How long do you all get used to the camera? Cos i went to courts mega today. Have tried the camera ixus 850, seems to be quite of a hassle use. Pls advise. Thanks:)

Ixus 850 is ok, but given tt kind of price, there is better option. Just like F31fd. long batt life, gd nite shots, u can adjust the aperture n shutter priority. 1 thing i dislike about Ixus 850 is the navi button on the right, it's q diff to turn as compared to f31.

I have a fren, who was very determined to get ixus 850 (in feb), ended up got a f31fd, due to the difference in the picture quality. when set to high iso, the outcome of ixus 850 is v noisy.

If u are more for the picture quality, go for f31fd. If u are more brand conscious n outllok conscious, might as well go for sony cameras, which is better in outlook, esp T100, n it's slimer. or u can look at fuji Z5. To add on, if u nd a wide angle, u can buy the wide conversion lens anytime. the diff is nt very noticeable.

Go for the F31fd if you want a PnS camera for all occasions. I bought this camera so that I do not need to use flash to shoot my newborn baby. Now, I'm shooting at ISO400~1600 w/o flash most of the time and getting great results.
