hi! i am a 1st time canon user too. recently bought an ixus 430 and i was also a bit concerned about the warming of the camera. good thing i came across this thread. :D

so brave of me to use the manual settings right away. after seeing my first few shots, i think i'm sticking it out with auto for a while. :bsmilie:

i got a lens tissue paper and a lens cleaning solution, is this enough or do o have to buy a lens pen? how much does it cost? also, how much does an LCD protector cost?

thanks! :)

The manual settings gives out great shots, once you get the hang of the controls. You will appreciate it when you need to take night shots and moving objects.

The lens tissue and paper is sufficient for most applications. Be careful on the cleaning pressure, or it will wear the lens coating easily. For me, I prefer my B+W microfiber cloth.

A lens pen cost abt $15 bucks at most shops. LCD protector comes in various brands. Cheap ones cost about 5 bucks. I used a cheapo one (5 bucks at AP) for my Ixus. Good enuf for me as I dun intend to take it out.

Hi, everyone!
I just came back from a concert...all the pictures terrible :(
SO SAD!!!
I think Ixus is nice for day shots, but the nite/indoor ones...sigh...and the digital zoom is ...well, sad :nono:
Perhaps my fault coz I used Auto....any advice on Nite/indoor shots using Manual, please???? What's this ISO thingy? I heard that if dark, use higher ISO...why? Is it true?

Should have brought my non digicam (Olympus Zoon 115)...did a much nicer
job at the last concert!

If only the manufacturers come out with a simple, affordable, user friendly camera with good Megapixels and high optical zoom....forgot to add...slim and easy to carry esp for the ladies ;) So demanding, huh? :bsmilie:

My ixus heated up...so scared...but lasted the 2 hr concert...just switch on when needed and switch off when dun use...and dun hold the hot part as u want it to cool down....

Definately need spare battery...which luckily I brought along ;)

By the way, what's a lens pen? Any pictures or sites I can visit to see? I wonder if they sell those in M'sia

Thanks!

For night / indoor shots, you have to set higher ISO. But do note that higher ISO will result in more noise.
The ISO is the sensitivity of the film, which in the digicam, the software in the camera will emulate the film's condition.
Another alternative is to set low or moderate ISO and long shutter. But this is not advisable for moving objects. You will see motion trails in your pics.
Do some trial and errors. In no time, you will master your digicam.

A lens pen is like a pen, except that it has cleaning material on its tip instead of ink.
Instead of putting your finger with the cleaning cloth and wipe the lens, you use the tip of the lens pen to "rub" it. It's very effective in removing fingerprints.

I dunno if there's any sites to see the product. But I'm sure there's a lot of photo developers or camera shops selling it.

Here's one of the night shot I snapped recently using my Ixus 400.
The EXIF information is still retained. Feel free to check it out.

Nite-nite!

It's not a very nice pic, coz the positioning is kinda wrong. Observed the redundant trees??? Nevertheless, I juz got the shoot while waking along Marina Bay. Just wanted to illustrate that the Ixus can do good night shoots as well.

Maybe you wanna post a picture of your shots. Then we can correct your techniques or errors.

Hahaha! What redundant trees? They add a nice touch that S'pore among it's tall concrete jungle still have lush greeneries...hehehe!

My pictures? :embrass: Bad, bad....will try to take summore then show, okie?

Hope to receive pointers...dun laugh went I show them, ok? Hmmm....what pictures shall I take?

By the way, how do I add pictures? Just use the Insert Image icon? Any size restriction?

Thanks!

:D Thanks for the "praises"

Dun worry about your pictures being no good, coz that's the only way to learn from fellow CS members.

To add pictures, you have to have your own webspace to store your pictures, by clicking the insert image icon, you type in the URL where the picture is stored. Best if you resize or crop your pictures or it will appear really big in the webpage.

Hi, Hoky!
Thanks for the explaination :)

I need my own space? Hmmm....
