IT SHOW 2011 (need advice)

Hi guys,

IT show is due next week and I am thinking of using this event to get my DLSR Canon 60D and two sigma lens.

I was told by a few that it is actually not advisable to get the camera there as the price is RPC (no special discount) and Sigma Lens may not be available at the event.

Instead, use the IT SHOW 2011 event and then to go to TK Photo, ALAN, MS Color and buy...cos they normally will "lower price" or etc (what is your advice)

Also, what are the "freebies" that I can ask for for the camera and lens that i am buying? ND filters ? battery ? memony card? screen protector ???

I am also thinking of getting a small camera bag - should i go IT show ? maybe more selection ??

Please feel free to drop any comments

Listen to your friend, he gives good advice, the promotions are by Canon and any gifts will be provided at the shops as well. For the camera bag, its the same, go to the usual shops.

If you don't mind walking around city hall, IT show is at suntec, Tk Foto is at funan, Orient Photo is at SLS. Just dig out the best offer the ITshow can offer (dig more freebies) and jot it down on the flyer. Show one flyer from a booth to another booth ask them if they can beat the offer. Then walk to funan or SLS ask the shops what offer they can give u based on what you have noted in the flyer.

They should give u cheaper price...if not just walk back to IT show and buy. Good walking exercise too.

At least this is what I do when I buy PC products.

Note sometimes the reputable shops might give you less freebies but offer you a cheaper price. That might be good because the freebies (screen protector, crap filter, etc) might not be worth the cash you save. In other words, more freebies though higher price at ITshow might not mean it's a better deal. You have to judge yourself.

Best to go reputable shops listed under the price guide section. As mention, they give lots of freebies but mostly don't worth the price diff even if u need them.

Good thing u asked around, some of my friends paid 300 more for a UV filter, dry box and cheapo bag as compared to those shops in funan.

Your friends are right.
First of all: do you know that you need these freebies or are you just trying to catch whatever they offer / throw in? If you know nuts about these items then skip them. Nobody will give quality items for free. Most of them are low quality, cheap stuffs that must go. It's only meant to lure unknowing people into buying. If you are seriously into photography then you will get the quality stuffs later anyway. Basic rule: buy only what you know and where you know that you really need it. No point getting something because others have also and then later "let's see how / where to use it". Most shops will give a 2nd battery (3rd party type) and memory card anyway. Screen protector is something for 'kiasu' people. Handle your camera with care but keep in mind it's not made from tofu. It's designed to take some bumps.
For camera bags you could have a look at OP. Friendly chaps, they let you try the bags and see what goes in. AP in Funan also has a wide range but the sales staff can be annoying. Haven't checked other shops.

For bag I prefer to test in TK, you can try all the bags without anyone bothering you and there are price tags, which means you don't need to call a staff to ask for price:)

I will prefer to purchase my camera at reputation shops, save more bucks :)

TK Photo give a wide range of bags for you to look and try. SLR Rev usually give lower price but they low in stock, my favorite store. AP salespersons are not a friendly one ;(
DDElectronic price is the lowest, and their website is a good place to get price tag. But store warranty vs official warranty, your choice.

price at recommended shop definitely lower and no bargain needed/allowed. free gift usually a 8GB memory card + canon bag. Sometimes they give a purchase with purchase promo for lens like 50 1.8, 50-250, free tripod upon warranty registration, etc.

additional item you must have is a dry cabinet (for your cam + 2 lenses). Get the digital one. Some will recommend dry box, but i prefer a digital cabinet (hassle free)

Hi there,

IT show ususally offers good price for point-n-shoot cameras but not for DSLR. I suggest you to buy DSLR at Funan. Shops from Simlim cant be trusted. I just bought my dslr from John 3:16 located at Funan 3 days ago. There is a camera shop at Lvl 1, Peninsula Hotel, which is just next to Funan. I didn't catch the name. They offer better price for DSLR than John. I found out that after my purchase @ John. You can get free tripod from Canon if u register online warranty b4 9th March. Hope it helps!

Are you talking about The Camera Workshop? They are selling grey sets over there, so just take note on that. Actually a lot of shops are selling cheaper than J3:16, in the same building alone, TK Foto, SLR-Revolution and Alan Photo are cheaper than J3:16
