There is someone here selling the HLV-F58AM flash for $500....seems like a decent price....but am still debating / deciding if I can get it any cheaper elsewhere.

Cheers

I been to the IT show, PC show, Sitex etc
They never sell lenses there.
OR they have some but never a good price or a good deal.
Just head down to the usual camera places like MS , CP or AP

Just bought a Canon mount Sigma at 5% cheaper than the best price I could find (Orient Photo). It comes with an additional year of warranty (total of 2 years), plus some useless freebies which I didn't pay attention to.

Haha. Told u I have weak discipline! You should. The additional 1 year of warranty really makes sense. I bought the Sigma 50 1.4. Here are some test shots taken at f1.8 at the show.

gasp...poisonous...hw much did it cost u?

Haha you must have bought the last one. They didn't have any at 1pm. How does the AF accuracy and speed compare to the EF50 f1.4? I sold mine and was considering between the Sigma or the 50L. Cheers!

Oh and for those who are quite new to the scene, shops will match prices during the IT Show. These shows are primarily an opportunity for companies to clear old stock. :)

Sigma has a place there.

Wide range of lenses!

Anyone knows if I can get the same freebies as at the IT show plus cash payment discount if I go straight to Cathay Photo's shop?

No stock at Cathay. Sigma distributor has no stock too. So buying from the distributor at the IT show sort of "guarantees" you the fastest delivery....

Cost me 824 (look for Mariam) but its the additional 1 year warranty which sealed the deal for me. I called Orient and Cathay yest and they quoted me $860 and $880 for the lens, but both of them have no stock.

They had 1 piece left but given the QC issues from Sigma, I didnt take it. I paid for the lens, and made an appointment at their Jln Bukit Merah office when the stock comes in. The staff promised me coffee, an air con room and at least 3-4 pieces to choose from when the stock comes in a week later :bsmilie::bsmilie:

The 50L is too rich for my blood so I am not looking in that direction lah.

Nice yah? This was from an entry level Olympus cam as the display piece they had was of an Olympus mount.

I couldn't hear the lens focusing over the noisy convention hall so cant comment on that. But it was faster than the EF501.4 for sure! Similarly, I couldnt hear what the freebies were when she rattled them off to me....I just replied "yah ok ok" and expect to be surprised when I pick them up :bsmilie:

The focusing accuracy was pretty alrite as I got a good 1st time lock with all things I aimed at. Could be the fact that there was sufficient light in the exhibition hall.

I am quite excited.

are there installment plans during IT shows?

Wasn't in a rush to get a 450D, but since at the IT Show, popped over to the Canon camera booth, look see look see.

Wah seh, the number of ppl crowding there looking at PnS and DSLRs, you'd thought we were in a bull-run market.

But sadly, stood there with my wife pouring through the price-list taped to their display case, got free sales staff standing around and never approached us. Just stand there and chit-chat. Fed up, walked away. The 450D Kit I comes with Gorilla-pod, Lenspen, UV Filter, LCD Protector and a Photo-printer (listed @ $179 for the printer). Tempted, but gonna wait and see if the 500D affects the 450D price or not.

do you think it is worth it to get a 450D at the IT show?

Is the extended warrenty promo only when you buy the dslr at the IT Show? Or can I get the extended warrenty for my 2 weeks old 40D? Can get 50mm 1.8 @ $50. Then sell off at $120!

I think its only if u buy during the IT show, else everyone will go extend warranty liao :)

Recee IT show deals

1000D@1099
450D@1299

None... coz all the price listed are their SRP... unless you are planning to get the dual kit, extend your warranty (and purchase the 50mmF1.8), 580EX2 (for 50D).... I don't see the "advantages" from buying in the IT Show. Nevertheless buying there would enable you to enter the lucky draw.... :bsmilie:
