Okay... I am wrong, re-read the net, yep they are different sensor.

I never say anything about you cannot or can tell the difference between the two (no need to get so defensive). Anyway, what I read are all from the net, and reports have it that 550D is sharper when compared to the 7D, other than the two sites that I have posted, here is another one from Digitalrev,

Canon EOS 550D vs. 7D - Head to Head Comparison - YouTube (watch 1.58minutes onward).

So there... if you have something to support your claim others than claiming to have both cameras and thats it, maybe you can show it to us too. And btw... I admit, I only have the 7D and didn't have the 550D so whatever I said is base on what I have read online.

No worry, I'm fine. Btw, I believe more on physical than theory.

I used to have 60D but after 6months I jumped to 7d... Never regretted my decision and loving it evrytime I use. I'm not bothered about the rumoured 7d mk2.

i have a 400D now, so i dont urgently need one. just looking for an upgrade
not really considering 600D,
either the 60D of 7D.

my decision towards the 7D is mainly becos of the better ISO noise performance, bigger viewfinder, better AF, and most impotantly, i buy liao probably wont upgrade for next 6 years at least....
looking at the xxD replacement span, quite fast, will outdate quite fast. so yea. thought 7D is a more 'stable' investment

You know, if I were in your shoes and really not upgrading for the next 6 years, I would probably want to jump to full-frame as the next big step up - it opens a whole new perspective as the nicer/more "serious" lenses that Canon make are EF-mount (especially L primes), and while being compatible with APS-C, just don't perform the same way as they are intended to as compared to FF.

I am thinking of getting one real soon as well, the only thing thats stopping me is the upcoming revised 7D. :s

"The only things that the 7D buys you are faster frame rate, video, and more advanced AF and a tougher body. If you are shooting action like sports a lot, then the upgrade is probably worth it. My compact Fuji X10 has better video recording capabilities than the 7D. I wouldn't upgrade to 7D for the video. The AF and the LCD viewfinder are better on the 7D. You also have 100% coverage in the optical viewfinder. However, keep in mind that the CMOS sensor in 7D is at least one generation behind Sony, Nikon, and Pentax especially in low ISO dynamic range. The 40D is still a pretty good camera and you only gain a little resolution with the 7D. If I were in your shoe, I would hang on to the 40D for a while. "

True?

My answer to all these "worth it or not" questions are its never worth it. TBH, look at the life cycle of lenses compared to bodies. haha

I think the bottom line is if TS has the budget an patience to keep waiting on the new 7D mk2, then wait...

If TS is itching to upgrade soon and cant wait at all then by all means, go buy lah.

Ofcourse before buying, you already have considered the benefits it will value add to your photography and peace of mind.

Think about all the time wasted on waiting and all the good photo opportunities missed.

Just pick up the 7D and start shooting. Remove that typical sg mindset 'aiyah, i should have waited.. 7dm2 has this and that..'

7D is already a very capable DSLR.

Quite true when come to technology. 7D is rather a good buy now compare to first launched.

7D user here since 1st launch. No complains till date and the 8fps really helps alot during F1 shoots.

However, to be frank. If you are fine with your 400D and do not mind waiting, why not aim for a FF like 5DM2? In terms of ISO, definitely 5DM2 wins hands down.
