Isn't Nex5/3 a good low light camera and good specs, but so many ppl selling?

NEX3/5 is built as a PNS with SLR quality/features. Too many people come into that area expecting a full fledged SLR features.

It's like getting a damn power sports bike and then expecting a car sized boot.

Know what you want, and you wouldn't go wrong...

I sold my a550, and went ahead with the NEX5. No regrets. I like OVF, but right now my requirements does not justify a full fledged DSLR.

That said, the new firmware is fantastic, making 2 buttons customisable is a boon, much easier to change settings on the fly in PMAS modes

LX3/5 is the similar to the Sony HX5....both are PnS so you can't really compare it with the NEX3/5.

NEX3/5 - Samsung NX100 - Olympus Pen are in the same class...EISA calls them Mirrorless Compact Cameras.

Yea..and what is bloodsucker on about???

on image quality, LX5 & Nex5 close fight. tested out both at C3 today.
:)

Hi, The camera has good pros. However, one con is that the 18-200mm blocks the IR light of the camera.

The IR sensor is used for the remote control though. If you don't use the IR remote control, no worries.

Try blow up on big screen/monitor and u will see the differences....:)

Hi, It also serves as an AF illuminator. In fact, the IR lamp serves many functions viz, AF assist, Red-eye reduction, remote sensor etc... depending on the type of camera in use.

Hey guys,

I am torn between upgrading from my current LX3 to either an NEX5 or NX10. While I prefer the handling of the NX10, I think the size of the NEX5 is definitely an attraction. However, I am really put off by the pancake lens for the NEX5. The F/2.8 is pathetic and does not serve my needs. Any NEX users here have any better pancake to recommend with the NEX and if so, what mounting is the lens?

Also appreciate any information from existing users of these 2 cameras.

You and many others are misinformed about 16mm pancake. It is in fact an excellent lens and fast for it's size.

see disscussion here:

I have both vg10 and nex-5

Nex-5 is far superior in every way except a few video functions.

Thanks for the info. Since I am used to fast and bright lens (previously using an F/1.4 with my K-x and now F/2.0 with my LX3), will this 16mm pancake allow me to take satisfactory low-light portrait shots without flash as I am used to now? Also, will the DOF combined with the wide angle allow for good blurred background portraits? I am evaluating this lens from a practical usage point of view rather than how well it is put together.

I almost forgot about the A55. I'm also slanting towards that... so if any A55 users out there have any comments I would gladly hear them too. I know the A55 isn't as portable as the NEX or NX10, but I'll basically have a wider choice of lens.

I'lll treat the Nex as a very good PnS and not a direct replacement for a DSLR.

Having a Nex-5 with the 16mm, I bought it for the size and the low-light abilities and so far I am happy with it.
about using the 16mm for portrait in low-light, I am not too sure as a relatively cheap wide angle there is some distortion on the side of the image, it works fine with landscape but for portrait... you can view some pictures there :
http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2010/11/06/sony-nex-5-and-16mm-at-iso-6400-on-the-light-rail/

There are some nice lenses you can put on the nex-5 (using an adaptor) to shoot portrait (like the voigtlander 40mm 1.4 or the voigtlander 50mm 1.1) depending on your budget. I bought the 40mm and so far I am happy with it either.

hope it helps.

Oh yes definitely... the voitlander sounds like a sweet lens. Don't mind I ask how much you paid for it and where did you get it together with the adapter from?
