Is video light in consumer video cam useful?

Wat exchange rate, 1.6? I thought should be nearer 1.4 or less.
Not used the Sony HVL-10NH yet but played with it in the Sony shop today.
It costs Sgd$199.
I like the idea of the 4 AA batteries. Plus it comes with a bracket with two screws. The light itself is designed with a tiny sony hotshoe but it does have a screw thread built in so if you use the supplied bracket, you can use it with other camcorders.

oops, I worked it out based on the GST, not the prevailing exchg rate. It should be $490+ if calculated based on 1.4+... Guess the final figure will be clearer when Jeannie receives the bill.
Come to think of it, I wonder how does the custom arrived at the GST charge of $39????

Well, the GST is calculated based on the (USD+freight) x exchange rate. Hence they are providing DDU shipment. In this case, 350x1.37x1.07=SGD513 liao. The GST is $24.5. I should think Jeanie did not include the freight cost in the original. Oh yes, not to forget UPS/Fedex charges a samll admin fee for paying yr GST for ya. Comes up to couple of bucks depending on GST value.

the other lights are a different class all together in terms of cost.. they r SGD750 without batt for the Sony, and $1300 for the Zylight Z90. Litepanels has a nicer light which is in the 1k range too. IF u r using a mini cam that is alr close to the price of the cam liao lor! Oh well, but videography as many found out is a lot more expensive to photography sometimes. With DOF adapters, we are buying the same stuff as a photographer!
Thanks engr for the info. Yup, I was just looking at the DOF adapter and found it in the range of 2k+, as expensive as a new camera. But the sample shots looks really great and I even could apply some of the photography pic technique with it. Wonder when would I have the budget for it man.
Just found out the Expandore has begun to carry LitePanel Micro on top of the Sony LED light, its in the range of close to $500 with GST. Not on their website yet, but could write to them to query. FYR.

I saw that sales, but 1k is still stiff for me leh... I thought it is being reserved for viewing??? still available???. Anyway, I'm budgetting now for lighting and microphone, rather tight to go for such premium stuff though the footages looks really nice and exciting.
Need your expert advise, is LitePanel really worth it? Its cheaper than Sony and Zylight, but is the quality of build (I heard that's its plastic) and the quality of light good for video shooting? How is this compare to Spinet L105 which I heard that it's selling at $580 (excl GST) at videopro? Thanks.

Brevis sold last nite liao.. still got an FX1e to go with lotsa stuff... Frankly I cant tell u whether which one is good. I have only tried the Sony personally so my comments r based on extensive online research. Pricing is a big diff.. as the saying goes pay peanuts get monkeys.. in this case, u have to manage yr expectations lor. I guess a $500 thingy may have some diff from a 1k thingy most of the time. Only thing is how big is the gap. If u wan a safe bet go for Sony cuz u can test it locally. otherwise ask jeanie to show u lor.. It all depends on yourself at the end of the day!

So sad, kind of miss the DOF adaptor sale, but nevertheless, will look out for one in the future when I have better $$ reserve. Well to me, its kind of combining my photography feel/skill into videography, sounds exciting to me.
Thanks for the tips and comments on lighting so far, it has been very helpful. I hope i could make up my mind soon and go for one of these LED light. Thanks. '
