24fps is the frame rate per second, it is not the standard - if you are referring to quality - but how smooth you see your actions scenes in your video.

Low or not enough lighting is usually the result of graininess, can you confirm the grainy scenes only happen in earlier mentioned condition?

I'm not sure about the rendering power of the software that comes with LG recorder that causes the grain. I would suggest you to look for better rendering software to do your conversion before burning them to DVD. Download a trial version of the AVS Video Converter 6. It has some detail settings which allows you to create fine videos.

U got it now ;)
Hf200 have own lighting but it isn't enough, try shoot with the light on if dim, and closer to subject because ur light isn't shine far enough, u can go the cheap cheap shop buy a led light which can strap to ur head; yes the type that ppl wore when they explore cave, I am suggesting this because ur cam don't seem to have hot shoe, correct me if I am wrong

My camcorder save the HD footage in a SDHC card. I then import the footage from the SDHC into Nero (on PC) and then burn it to DVD. No editing at all. The quality seems better than direct burning it to LG DVD recorder.

There are a other issues to consider besides noise from low light recording.

Is your camcorder an NTSC model? PAL models usually have 25 progressive frames per second.

Is your LG recorder PAL only? It may need to convert to NTSC frame rate with loss of quality.

I presume the LG recorder is downsampling from HD to SD for you.

What bitrate is your LG recorder encoding at? DVD recorders normally uses constant bitrates (CBR) rather than variable bitrates (VBR). Most software encoders are able to encode using VBR. Software encoders can also encode in NTSC format, if your source is NTSC.

You can generally squeeze in an hour of video on a single layer DVD at the highest bitrate/quality setting. If you want to burn a 2 hour video on a DVD, then you would need to use VBR to maintain as much quality as possible.

Did you record it at High Quality?
Did you record it in "Night Mode"
Did you record it in poor light?
Is your auto-gain on?
Is your ND Filter on?

Check again. There is NO reason for your camera to screw up if all of the above are satisfied.
Even SD Camcorders do NOT record with high grain, if all of the above are satisfied.
Something is seriously not right there.

Worst case scenario, send it in for servicing, if the noise level is still high..

hi, may i know which nero version did u use to burn yr footage?

hi, may i ask if we can compare our dvd using my dvd recorder to see the picture quality?

We can compare but what do you want to see?

The important criteria is the quality of your source material. Not all HDV camcorder records at the same quality due to different sensor size. Even those cheapo $199 HDV camcorder can record at 1920 x 1080 but when projected on the screen, there's artifacts like pixelation etc.

HDV is not 1920x1080 res, and I believe yymun's cam hf200 is record in avchd format, not hdv. :)

thank you.

even there are so many handycam with HD function, yet they produce different pic standard. find hard to understand. i might get a media player to play back the video :embrass:

yymun,

Do not record in Full-Auto mode.
Especially, auto iris/aperture.
In low light auto iris will open to the max, if still not enough light your cam will add gain to brighten the video which will make your video grainy.

In bright outdoor auto iris will stop down the iris to the minimum maybe @F11.
Your video will not be sharp and clear. Use ND filter for outdoor.

Cheers!

Hey bro, i've replies to your other thread abt this question of urs oso. Its quite long. Hope it helps you to solve some of ur queries.

Anyway, guys, He is using a hf200, consumer level hd handycam-type camcorder. Usually these cams shoots in avchd codecs and oftenly in interlace format, not progressive. Even if it shoots in progressive modes, the bitrate and codec it shoots in doesn't do any good to the quality. Plus, this kind of cams have puny sensors, thats y so noisy the image.

And he need better softwares to edit and render his video.
