Is the S5 Pro still a worthwhile buy?

Thanks for posting those up. In the first picture which is a night shot, did you do a handheld exposure at high ISO? Or was it a long exposure taken at lower ISO? Just interested to know how it handles noise with night shots. I'm guessing it was a short exposure based on the appearance of the water.

What's the price at Liang Court? Haven't been to that place in ages and didn't think they sold such stuff there.

sorry for late reply i using iso 1600 and shutter speed is 1/3 sec f.3.5 .I using a vr lens , never bring tripod that day .

The price is 1699 with 18-200mm tarmon lens and 2x 4gb card battery grip(third party) with a bag and tripod.:)

hhaa sure or not hhaha.

Let ours' and our wedding and event clients' eyes be the judge. Dpreview isn't our clients.

Let whoever pays us be the critic.

Hi,
I am also searching for reviews of S5 and opinions on this system as its somewhat a divergence from the std nikon vs canon discussions.
In my mind if you can stretch it for a few months, have 2 systems, play with the fuji to your hearts content and decide if its for you at all. If not a practical solution to have 2 systems then sell it off for a small loss but you now know for sure the beauty or ugliness of the system. Its "tuition" fee in some sense but one cant get a better "education" on this subject other than buying it, use it to the max for 2 months or so. keep the canon system in the box for a while and really immerse yourself in the S5.
Then you can get us review of your experience wt the S5 with a bottom line conclusion that fits your own personalized shooting preferences.
Voila!

Thanks. This would be what some have also suggested before. Sounds like a waste of money but indeed, short of renting, or buying and later selling, there's no better way to 'test' a camera or lens. Some weeks ago I bought the S5 together with the Nikon 16-85 VR and it's a lovely combination. As of yet I've had no chance to bring the camera out for a proper trip but have been taking test shots under a variety of different conditions.

As expected the DR of the S5 and flexibility of the RAW files is amazing in Lightroom. Color is unlike that I was getting from the 1Ds and Leica lenses, perhaps more saturated but not necessarily better than the Canon setup (bearing in mind the camera is also attached to what could be some of the best lenses in the world). The Canon setup trumps the S5 setup for sheer definition, sharpness and detail.

Guess I would need to keep both in the end. Besides, the 1Ds Classic is quite a rare beast. If I decided to let it go I don't know if I'll ever be able to buy back a specimen in such good mechanical and exterior condition. But I'll need to sell some of the Leica lenses to raise some funds, and maybe even sell the flash so that I can get a flash for the S5 instead.

maybe even sell the flash so that I can get a flash for the S5 instead.

Get the SB-600 if you are a little tight on budget. This flash is good enough for most general photography, even wedding and event.

Thanks for the recommendation. This is great information especially since I was about to post in the Nikon forums to ask for help with a choice of flash. Looks like I got my answer right here! In the future I hope to do a lot more wedding/ portrait photography for family and friends on a voluntary basis, so a flash would be really useful.

Sorry for the slight OT.

I real numerous rumors that there will not be an S6pro. It is pity actually.

Fujifilm announced a new generation of Super CCD technology at Photokina last year. The Super CCD EXR.

You can read about it here:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08092210fujifilmEXR.asp

The Dual Capture Technology sounds very much like they are doing an in camera HDR!!

If they stick the Super CCD EXR into the outstanding D300 or even D700, I think we will have a really great S6pro....

The noise performance and DR will defintely shoot through the roofs.

Man, if they release the S6 within the next few months I will certainly kick myself for not waiting a little longer. A few months is not a long time to wait.

Fujifilm has suffered some financial losses last two years, thus causing them to rethink and focus their attention on more profitable products.

why kick? how much did you get your S5pro? $2.4K?
if S6pro were to come out it'll definately be more than $2K.
with your S5pro around $1K, there's no good reason to kick yourself.

spare your legs le.:bsmilie:

He tries to imitate David Buckham I guess.

lol but i would love to see a s6pro but i dun think i can afford it at 2.5k anyway, it could be the case cus s5pro selling at such low pricing they clearing stock for the new supper CCD EXR hehe
