Is the S5 Pro still a worthwhile buy?

Hey guys, just thought to let you know I've jumped on and bought the S5 Pro today. A disappointment however is that the local store did not have the Tamron 17-50/2.8 in stock when they were clearly offering it as a kit on their website. Anyway for the timebeing they have loaned me a Nikon 18-70/3.5-4.5 for temporary use which I can trade with the Tamron when it arrives.

I charged up the battery, took a couple of trial RAW files and loaded it on com. And Finepix Studio is so frickin-slow that almost nothing can be done. And I thought people were complaining that Canon's DPP was slow. Geez, nothing compares to FP Studio!!

Man, I need to get myself a copy of Lightroom now. Maybe off Ebay, because I wouldn't be in Singapore for the next few months. Is there any chance someone could buy a copy in Singapore, ship it to me and I pay them by Paypal or something?

S5Pro definitely worth buying, a huge price drop from when it first came out, why not? saw one set left at counter in TK Foto, several sets came today but all was reserved except one. Those interested FYI.

Heheh, maybe I had everyone fooled. I was just debating for a very long time whether to get it or not. Told my parents today I was going to buy it and they raised their eyebrows at me. Even now with the S5 on hand they're still telling me to keep the 1Ds and Leica lens setup since it takes beautiful pictures. And they're absolutely right but I know one of them has to go eventually. One of them will be on sale closer to March next year when I next return to Singapore.

Nice things have been said about the Tamron in terms of sharpness, even wide open. But the dreaded issues are massive vignetting and CA. I've had neither of these with my Leica lenses even on a FF sensor, however they also will not work on a Nikon mount camera.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to answer one of your questions. I bought from Ted's Camera in Australia. Won't be back in Singapore for a while. The S5 looked a little sad and forlorn on the shelves. Understandably with the hype of the megapixel race the S5 wouldn't be anywhere near the top of a shopper's 'want' list.

Uncle? Oh, I'm getting there quickly. The job seems to be aging me pretty fast. Currently working in Aussie as a vet and because of the schedule it's been difficult to go for any sort of outing. Not long ago there was a meetup for people in Melbourne but I was unavailable that day (like most other days anyway).

But when I get back to SG for the hols sometime in March next year, there might be a little time for a group outing.

The experience at Ted's today was a good one. But ordinarily I would never have bought any camera equipment in Aussie and hence never given any of the shops a second look. Turns out they have customer service far exceeding that of any shop I've seen in SG. Nice folks there and very obliging, even if they don't know a whole lot about cameras. With these things anyway, the buyer should be doing all the research rather than trusting a salesman to make a recommendation.

Fword cannot be an uncle lah.... If you look at his website carefully you will know he is not.

:bsmilie: Eh...eventually all the young ones will get that status.

You are still very young. I assume probably in your mid twenties.

I am at least 15 years older than you leh. ;)

For forumer who consider buying Fuji FVilm SX5Pro, it is good that u consider the possible pitfall of S5Pro as well in the link below. S5Pro tends to have focusing issue with different lens as reported in the photographyblog. But many agreed that S5Pro dynamic range is unsurpassed in today DSLR standard.

Well I have to concede that the AF of the S5 is nowhere near as fast or as accurate as my 1Ds. Despite advances in technology, we are nevertheless comparing a 'semi-pro' body to a 'pro' body. The S5 is far easier to deal with as far as exposure is concerned whereas the 1Ds is a lot more particular.

Very True. At least for a lot of us, we find that the AF is good enough

I use a 1Ds MkII at work. I agree that the S5 Pro's AF is slower. However, I find it more accurate than Canon.
