Is the S5 Pro still a worthwhile buy?

Seems the same to me in terms of sharpness.

This is because I use a Carl Zeiss 85mm f1.4 ZF for this test.

The earlier test images were shot with a Nikon 28-105 AFD (a S$400 lens). There is a difference in sharpness.

A good lens does make a difference when using this camera.

Haha, it is this clarity and color rendition that makes CZ and Leica famous for their optics. Within Nikon's realm however, the newer 16-85mm looks like a good lens, just taking a look at the results on Photozone. It's not yet available in Australia however, but I hope that when their next catalogue comes out, the lens will be in.

Photobum, could you comment on the 'banding' that I'm seeing in the windows in the last two 100% crop pictures? I was wondering if that's banding from the sensor or a reflection from something else. Banding used to be a big problem with the older cameras. Less so these days, at least till the 50D came out, I think.

A direct comparison between Nikon and Carl Zeiss optics on a Fujifilm S5 Pro. Now that I look at them again, the Nikon lens is not bad for its price actually.

Don't worry. Those are reflections on the windows, not banding. I can see them with my eyes when I look outside my windows now.

Just like any other Nikon AF cameras, move the focus point up, down, left or right with the multi-selector.

1. Turn the focus selector lock to 'dot' position.
2. Press the up/down, left/right on the mutii-selector to select your focus point.

'L' means you can use Canon L lenses when selected.

No lah... it means 'lock'.

I think cos the outer circle of the direction pad is put to L, which is lock.

It means our friend can use Canon L lenses. And because Canon L lenses are so advanced, it will select focus for the photographer automatically. No need for him to use focus point. :bsmilie:

Don't worry my friend. I have used the S2 Pro, S3 Pro and now S5 Pro. No banding issues from Fujifilm DSLRs so far.

In the past, however, I do know some of Fujifilm's compact cameras suffered from banding issues.
