What does IS stand for?:dunno:
Been seeing too many acronyms in the site, already having a hard time understanding technical stuff; still have to figure out acronyms .. hehehee .. :sweatsm:
It really boils down to what u need/want most, in terms of features. For example, I wanted a longer zoom than 3x or 4x found in most compacts/ultra-compacts, hence I settled for a Powershot A700 which gives me 6x zoom (35mm to 210mm)...and I wanted one using AA batteries instead of proprietary li ion batts - and the A700 fitted my requirements (although it wasn't all I wanted it to be - for instance, there's no IS).
In summary, the A700 fitted my requirements with these features:
- 6x zoom vs 3x, 4x
- uses AA batteries vs proprietary batts
- fits my trouser pocket: compact vs prosumer size/dslr size
- has optical viewfinder vs none
- must be 6MP vs 5MP
- uses SD card vs xD or CF
- has 2.5inch LCD vs 2.0inch
But granted, and understandable, lots of first-timers are blur (me was once like that), to them a cam is a cam is a cam, so they go for looks, high MPs, lots of features, but absolutely not an inkling of what they require - but everyone has to start somewhere and experience it, then they'll know what they need and want in a cam.
