Is the following thread about economics or politics?

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4776181#post4776181

I started a thread about the 500k limit on bank executive pay policy and was promtly closed as someone said it is about politics and some moderator decided that it is about politics.

As I DO NOT want to run afoul of clubsnap RULES, I am wondering why my thread is about politics so I can avoid such "inflammatory" threads in the future.

PS: the thread is not about Obama.... or him running as president, or US politics, or about PM Lee, it is about his policy.

are you saying that (economic) policy has nothing to do with politics?

r u saying discussion of economic policy is off limits in CS?

economics policy of course is influence by politics but many things are influenced by politics. In fact every government policies are influenced by politics. From government bailouts, to gst increases, to fare rise, to price rise, etc.

R U saying anything that is remotely influenced by politics is off limits in CS?

PS: I am not argueing against the rules. I just want to know what the rules entails/covers so I and everybody else can better follow them

Economics and politics are always intertwined. In normal times, I guess your thread will not be closed. But in 'this extraordinary times', simple economics esp policies affecting the economy will be considered more related to politics than other times.

Anyway, my feeling is that if there is a photo depicting say Wall Street/Stock exchange/agonising faces, then your topic may not be about economics or politics per say but more on photography and any discussions are just a natural progressions and hence more acceptable like the other thread on demonstrations against Israeli attack on Gaza.

I can understand your ?frustrations esp when your thread is in kopitiam section where more leeway is assumed.

...well it leads to all sorts of funny troubles due to the "all embracing" nature of cs. :bsmilie:

Your discussion on this thread already become a politic issue by itself.........

If one wants a proper discussion of such a topic it needs proper knowledge and insight view. No point discussing such things even at Kopitiam level because it's loaded with emotions, half-knowlegde or less and other things preventing a fruitful and reasonable discussion with a measurable result. What else should be the result of a discussion? Enough hot air already in Kopitiam. Secondly: It's simply off-topic discussing US economy and politics in a photography forum without having the slightest link to a picture taken ...

ok from all the views I gather,

to start a thread in kopitiam,

1) u need to have PROPER KNOWLEDGE and INSIGHT view

2) u must link a photo

mmm... I think u better start closing all the threads in kopitiam :bsmilie:

most of the threads in kopitiam indulge in inane banter. such do not need any concrete knowledge, to be honest.

anything involving the concept of "proper knowledge" or "insightful views" usually ends up as some form of semi-violent clashfeste, with bystanders looking on with popcorn. soon it becomes some form of popularity contest where having more people on your side means that your logic is sound, although this is almost nearly never the case. :bsmilie:

as much as i would love to be optimistic, it is hard to have your cake and eat it too. either an all-hands-off approach should be taken (which i highly doubt will be seen in cs any day soon, in some sense a good thing perhaps).. or the other extreme will have to do. there can be no moderate ground, lest there are accusations of double standards. whether this is the case though, i am not sure.

To the threadstarter, I know you were de-registered before as another nick. Looking at your past posting history when ever your thread is closed you will take issues with the mods.

Do not push it too far if you want to remain welcome here. :nono:
