Is the 7-14 f4 ZD the widest DSLR lens around??

Just remembered that I tried the de-fish option in Olympus Studio/Viewer before - it really straightened things out, but at a loss of wideness and resolution.

wow this was defished extremely well!

That's how defishing works, like liquify in a certain way, it stretches and compresses pixels from my understanding

Sorry, I am not ready for fisheye at this point in time.....:nono:

You're all forgetting about fisheye lenses...for instance the Oly 8mm fisheye is WIDER than the 7mm of the 7-14mm rectilinear corrected lens!

Actually, since the Oly 8mm is a full frame fisheye it's only 180 degrees DIAGONALLY!!!

If you get a circular fisheye lens it's 180 degrees vertically/horizontally...I was actually disappointed trying out the Oly 8mm when I was shopping around for Boxing Day bargains...I had a semi-fisheye converter I use with my 14-42mm, and that combination is WIDER than the Oly 8mm:

Now if I had a fisheye converter instead of a semi-fisheye converter it would be even wider (180 degrees instead of the 150 degrees I get now).

Sigma 12-24 is the widest rectilinear lens for 35mm SLR;
Sigma 8-16 is the widest rectilinear lens for APSc SLR;
Olympus 7-14 is the widest rectilinear lens for 4/3.

Fisheye is totally another matter.

what is the use of getting circular fisheye?

What's the use of different lenses...shouldn't all cameras have a lens that's equal to the human eye, approx. 50mm? The answer is it's part of the fun and creativity of photography. If you yourself can't see the purpose of a fisheye lens, then no one can explain it to you; after all photography is a visual art. It's like the Lensbabies...people say, "why do that to your pictures" and "why would I want to use a plastic lens that looks awful"?

Actually the real purpose of a circular fisheye is to get a full 180 degree view, not just diagonally.

Since we're talking Olympus here, check out their 360 degree lens:

looks cool

I did some research

Wide Angle Zoom Lens

1. Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens for Canon APS-C sensor DSLR only.. so it should be 16mm. (AOV 107.3 degrees)
2. Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM Lens for Canon Full frame sensor only (AOV 108.1 Degrees)
3. Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM Lens for Canon Full frame sensor only (AOV 104 degrees)
4. Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon ASP-C sensor DSLR only (AOV 109 degrees)
5. Nikon 12-24mm f/4G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon ASP-C sensor DSLR only (AOV 99 degrees)
6. Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S Lens for Nikon full frame DSLR only (AOV 114 degrees)
7. Nikon 16-35mm f/4G AF-S VR Lens Nikon full frame DSLR only (AOV 107 degrees)
8. Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens for ASP-C sensor DSLR only (AOV 114.5 degrees)
9. Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Lens for ASP-C sensor DSLR only (AOV 102.4 degrees)
10. Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX Lens for ASP-C sensor DSLR only (AOV 104 degrees)
11. Olympus SHG 7-14mm for 43rd sensor only (AOV 114 degrees)
12. Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens - Canon Full frame sensor only (AOV 114 degrees)
13. Nikon AI Nikkor 13mm f/5.6s.Nikon full frame only (AOV 118 degrees)

ok.. the conclusion is the widest lens ever made is Nikon AI Nikkor 13mm f/5.6s that can give 188 degrees angle of view. But nikon stop production since year 1977.

Nikon 14-24mm able to give 114 degree AOV same as Olympus 7-14mm, there are no others lens can have similar angle of view. Oly 7-14 is one of the widest lens in the world but not the only widest lens in the world.(still in production)

sry.. I missed out the sigma lens, so sigma is the widest lens :D (but can this work on full frame?, i read the reviews this lens is for APS-C)

My question now is on is the 114 degrees for the 7-14 measured off jpeg image or RAW image. As you all now, the RAW image is a little wider than the jpeg image on 4/3 cameras. So does this mean that we can actually go wider when we shoot RAW or is 114 ddeg already measured using RAW file?
