Is Sony still a safe bet??

I'm newbie in DSLR photograph world & do bear with me if my opinion is weird!
Recently, I just bought an used Alpha 33 system b'cos compatible cheap with other brand system n dun need to bother whether the purchased lens got Vibration Reduction mode or not.
Also, there is lots of the low-price but excellent quality Minolta legendary lens (some of them might exist in market more than 10yrs) & lots of 3rd party lens in market.
For my normal use, I always bring along my favourite 4 lenses:
1) Minolta Beerscan 70-210mm f4,
2) Sigma 50mm f1.4
3) Kit lens 18-55mm SAM
4) Samyang 8mm FE.

Dun need worry too much! Just enjoy u shooting fun till your camera system worn down, and then get another used one in BnS section.
For me, I will keep on extending my photograph range of Alpha mount lenses in next few months. Lol, my next 2 targets:
1) Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
2) Tamron 17-50mm or 28-75mm f2.8

Wish u enjoy your DSLR photograph life journey! Cheers for today!

So I was thinking of upgrading my camera, thus I also need to get some better lenses for it. However I was thinking whether it would be a safe bet to buy the lenses for Sony first before getting the body upgrade?

Since I already have an A-mount camera, I just hope not while I am still getting my Sony mount lenses (A-mount) that they suddenly shut off their all A-mount to go all into their E-mounts (NEX). Is it still good to say that they will continue to market the Alpha segment in about, say 5 years time?

I am not sure whether I am saying this right, bear with me :P. Even I have difficulties trying to make sense myself lols. Currently using an A290, but thinking of upgrading to an A77.

EDIT: I changed DSLR to A-mount, since DSLR and SLT are different things even though they are both Alphas :P

Sony is world no1 for broadcast camera and display business is their core. They have so much technology in this area. They also own sensor factory. Nikon is using sony sensors too. Alpha and nex are here to stay. They have spent so much money to acquire Km.

I just bought item (1) tokina 1116 from shanghai and own a Sony 16-50 f2.8 instead of tamron.

Sal1650 is damn sharp!! U should get this lens instead. Pity they didn't put the G label on it....

That is If the G labeling on the lens mean alot to you. But if they were to make it a SAL16-50G to start with instead of just SAL 16-50.. The price of it will increase by afew hundreds .lol (Performance being the same..)

Yea. SAl1650 comes with A77 kit set. A pretty good deal.

I suppose G lenses are synonymous to sharp quality lenses. Sony did right by not over pricing it without the G label. It's a gd piece to own.

I bought the lens separately. Not an a77 owner yet.

Thanks bro for very nice recommendation! Might consider to get this Sal1650 in future, but not for recently coz a bit over-budget for me at this moment. LOL!
Let me learn & gain more shooting experience on my existing lenses first b4 upgrading from 18-55mm SAM to SAL1650!

True... with the 850/900 both not in production anymore..I think they should release the replacement "ASAP".
Lack of full frame lens selection? Hmm agree since we dont have so many lenses as compared to eg: Canon... But Sony already have the most common full frame lenses in the market..

We have the top quality CZs Lens, i think its time for some top quality tier 2 lenses that are well build. Like the 85m 1.8 and some F4 zooms. Not saying we dont have , but the CZ dont come cheap.

i hv no doubt about Sony. currently waiting for Alpha99

Don't worry. Still got minolta lenses for u to get. The whole range is enough for you. Still not enough? Still got tamron or sigma lenses.

How many lenses can u actually use? As casual shooter, all u need is just one prime, one all purpose zoom lens and probably one constant 2.8 lens.

the lens upgrades that im trying to get is every CS's dream LOL. 3 constant F2.8 for UWA, general and telephoto zoom. But i am most likely getting them bit by bit cause they are not cheap...lol duh. So im trying to decide whether i should upgrade lenses first or the body. If im going for the body first then it will not be a problem cause i can always just get a diff brand camera. However, since i already have a Sony DSLR i thought that maybe it would be more feasible to get the lenses first. But i do not want Sony to halfway stop production of their A-mount cameras, then those lenses that i have bought would stick to my entry lvl DSLR all the way.

buy what you need. not what everyone else is getting.

also i don't think Sony will suddenly stop their SLT line.

Agreed. Not after the numerous awards they are receiving, and also the R&D into new lenses, etc.

If anything, I see SLT itself being phased out with on-sensor PDAF, but the A-mount will survive.

Anyways thanks guys!! I might have found the answer myself. A friend of mine asked me, "Do you think Canon or Nikon will shut their DSLRs?" I was like no duh...and my friend went, "Exactly". :)
