is SB 600 a good flash?

Was searching up on the forums in comparing the SB600/SB800 as my 1st flash unit. No doubt the SB800 beats the SB600 but pricing wise, the SB600 is lighter on the wallet.

The only question now is do i buy a SB600 brand new or settle for a 2nd hand SB800. It's always nice to have "NEW" items especially for electronics and i'm assuming the same for flash guns as well as you have to consider the age and usage patterns of the previous owner so that might sway the choice to getting a new SB600 instead.

Anyways, thanks for the thread and the feedback.

given ur choice of a new sb600 or a used sb800, i would go for a new sb600...

cos it's normally harder to tell the condition of a new flash compare to a body or len....

but that's jus my own opinion

using sb600 for 1years plus....quite appreciated for using it...go for new sb600:thumbsup:

Thanks all. Hey, where can i get the cheapest sb600 @ the stores? Tried looking for the pricing guides but the information seem out of date.

2nd hand Sb600's going for 280-300 and brand new @ 350 if i'm not mistaken from some of the postings ...makes me wonder why ppl go for 2nd hand ones unless the sb600 is say 100+ more

well...to each his own.
some r tight on budget, hence went for 2nd hand or for back-up/secondary flash

Well budget/secondary flash is a valid reason.

But I go for new because isnt a flash like a light bulb?, I wouldnt know how much life left but take the word of the seller, and we all know how many dishonest sellers r there in here...:bsmilie:

It's a good flash for beginner. If you have no intention to go strobist, it can last you very long ;)

ya....tat's y for flash, i try to get new 1 also...
cos u can't really tell the condition jus by looking at the external...it's unlike the cam body which u can normally look at the shutter count as a rough guide...assume the shutter was not changed tat is...

even if u get the sb600 now and wants to upgrade in future, u can always use it as a remote flash.

ok then.... what would you rather get... new sb600 or used sb800?
my friend suggested better get used sb800
what do you all think?

dont all of u consider a 3rd party flash??im thinking to get a flash too....but i dun knw which to choose if sb600 VS nissin di866...
Any suggestion??
Btw..the price of sb600 is quite cheap too..around RM780 to RM800..

go for a new sb600...

i dunno abt 3rd party flash
