then maybe he should mention how to process.

cross processing, pushing up, etc.

would we moan that too many photographers has their own darkroom
n play with their darkroom tricks during the film days?

its common to see PP nowadays as all we need is a PC with the software.
so most of us would take our work to the end.

i'd hv to be one of the oldest here,
my first cam is the kodak instantmatic n my first PC is the sinclair zx81.
n i m glad to see my 2 hobbies more n more closely interwind.

lets move with the time n welcome better tools with open mind n heart.

Does it mean the work belong to the retoucher, and not the photographer?

If the answer is "of cos, it belongs to the photographer",
Then the photographer post proceed his work.

1) Cos no time.
2) Cos they lack skill in the PP dept.

he shoots BW 6x6 film for his work n slam digital n PP.

i pointed out that in his contact sheets,
their r comments that says things like add contrast,
crop, etc.
he said thats darkroom SKILL n not computer editing.
$25 down the drain together with my respect for dino photographer.

We choose to include, or omit certain objects in the scene, or place emphasis on something instead of another, and call it composition.

We choose angles that flatter, or ridicule a subject.

Is photography 'real' to begin with?

yes.
Darkroom is where all the post processing is done in the good old days.
Now, we have Lightroom to do the same thing.
But if i still have daily "free";p access to a darkroom and the necessary equipments,
I would love to do my PP again.

From Pre process [choosing the right film/ iso/ best time of e day to shoot] to
shooting [composition/observation] to
Post processing
[darkroom/developing/contact sheet/cropping/burning/dodging etc]

Expensive?: Yes!
Time consuming? Yes!
Learning something new each time u pp in DR?: Yes!
Fun?: Yes!
Appreciate your work even more?: Yes!
