Guys, like to seek ur advise on image stablizer. Is it really important on camcorder or good to have but not a need? Thanks very much.

Hi voodoo

You planning to get something?

Still need to shop around?

Maybe when you confirm can go together. With 2 camcorders maybe can have some discount.

Howz that?

With regards

do take note that there are two types of IS.

EIS = Electronic Image Stablisation
More commonly found in the consumer level camcorders. Mimick the OIS by using software/antialiasing to create a non-shaky image. Quality suffer...as in not sharp. But ok if you using for home video/video of own kids sports etc etc.

OIS = Optical Image Stablisation
using some kind of senor to detect the camera shake and counter by moving the sensor. Image quality does not suffer. Usually found in Prosumer and above. but nowadays you may find it in some consumer cam too.

If its EIS...its good to have lah, kinda like "when no fish, prawn also can...". But if OIS than is a must have. :)

pls note that IS does not cancel effect of bumpy car rides, big movement/shaking of hands, etc. (cos i ever saw a guy at CP buying camera and shaking the camera and asking the guy howcome the IS not working?....duh). :p

Thanks for all the info guys.

Right now still seaching...... where did i keep my money? haha. Aiming for the canon HV10 something $2k plus ley. Spent alot on lens liao. Maybe when i find my money or the price drop further which ever come 1st i may buy that. But right now still looking for some good quality picture consumer cam. Will do more reseach. Thanks again.
