Is one single 50mm F1.4 on FF enough for a light travel lens kit?

I read a comment by a photographer recently..... the reason why some pro uses 1 - 2 lenses at time is because it will allow them to compose much faster, and when they need to react fast, and instead thinking of chaning lens for this and that scenario, they can focus on shooting instead....

I think some pro only uses just one fix lens, and that's it... so why not??? Just use once single lens.... only thin is to find the range you are comfortable with.

This is true. However if you can switch lens really fast you'll know you can still catch the moment while switching lens. Like reloading a rifle o.O; seen some pple switch lens really fast.

When I first started photography many years ago, I only had 1 lens - a 50mm and I made do with it for over 10 years. Never had the luxury of having another lens! I shot everything with it and still survived. If you want to travel light with only 1 lens, then I say it should be a 50 mm lens.

It would seem that it might even be the 50mm F1.8. =X maybe a manual one.

to TS, i brought my 5D2 + 50 1.8 here in melbourne and its very limiting at least for my scenery style of shooting... 550D + 10-22 gets more action...

From my opinion and the way I shot with a DX cam, I rather would suggest to get an addition 35mm for on the streets. or if you like, get a 24mm.

been wondering, are you too free???? or just no one to go out with this lunar new yr? even if it's a DX or FX, I dont think a single 50mm is sufficient as the angle will be too wide for a FF body, then you will wanna get a 85mm for portrial, even when traveling. unless you ONLY wanna take landscapes.

50mm on FF too wide? haha...

A single 50mm will be quite restrictive. If TS only want a single travel lens and it has to be Canon, then I will suggest zoom lenses like 17-40 or if budget allows 16-35. I find wide angles to be more useful for travels.

If it is going to be primes, I find the TS-E 24mm MkI to be relatively affordable and versatile. A non Canon option will be Zeiss ZE 35 f2.0 for its sharpness and colours.

I have paired the following FL
1) 12-24 + 50
2) 24 + 50
3) 17-35 + 50
4) 24-70 + 70-200
5) 21 + 50

I always find that I use the wider lens that I have with me 85% of the time. I will try with a 35 + 85 next to see how it works out.
