my suggestion is to buy in Singapore. The China import tax is much higher than Singapore and you would end up paying at a min 20% more.

Your post is actually contradicting to many's experiences. Care to elaborate if you are speaking from experience, knowledge of the chinese economy, or simply guessing?

What u mentioned is complete opposite of what I encountered in China :dunno:

The prices are much cheaper, sometimes about $1K diff for a $3+k item sold in SG. Thats why I bought all my more expensive lenses there rather than in SG. However, in China, try to go to the bigger stores like ruiyi cam, etc and u muz know how to check the lens. Try your stuff until u r happy and insist on a official channel goods, avoid those water goods unless u r local :)

The sales pple are usually friendly and allow me to choose from whatever stock they have until I am happy. Anything I dont feel happy or right, juz dont buy and they didnt complain much either. Only thing I dont like buying in china is that they dont take credit cards, IMO carrying a big stack of notes around there is a pretty risky business, so keep it well hidden!

Hi, may i know which part of china did you get your stuff from? I ve got a few friends from different parts....Thanks...

Stuff in China is really really cheap  . Just got back from Beijing, and was quite amazed. For small budget items (like digicams), I can already save $100-$200 dollars, and the savings increase when you buy the really big stuff. I'm now saving up moolah to get some of my dream equipment when I go over again next year to visit my girlfriend again..... ;)

I heard HK gives the best prices in the APA region. For China, so far BeiJing seems to be giving me better prices. Funny thing Shanghai and GuangDong is more expensive that BeiJing for the official ones. Water goods more or less the same.

If BeiJing, goto BeiJing Se4Ying3 Qi4Cai2 Cheng....aka BeiJing Photography center @ Wu3 Ke1 Song1....down there got official nikon dealer and also other stores.

Another thing about China is the currency control which limits $6000 RMB cash to be brought in per person. For other funds, u gotta draw from ATM, blah blah blah or exchange from friends.

Hope this helps. :)

must go to HoNg KoNg to buy lah. they offer the almost the best price in the world!
