nah. actually, i wun complain. NS is fun. i find that it is a waste of national resources, but since i'm having fun, why not? everyday play xbox, play pool, chit chat, free biscuits, lunch, dinner,...... i can't really complain much. superiors are like friends, officers can call by their name, NS isn't that bad afterall.

therefore, i think NS is necessary, because after non-stop studying for so many years, i think it is necessary to give us a rest from studying and relax for the 2 years.:thumbsup::bsmilie:

If you cannot fight and defence your ground where got chance to bear fruits... if you are not trained how can you carry a rifle and protect your off spring and lvoe one...

We are what we are today becos we have the muscle to fight back should there be a need!

but with almost all males in the country in it's relatively small army, this same fighting force wont last long in war.

so, at the end of the day, fight war also will lose.

Frankly, I think you gain more and helped more being in the Police Force as you interact with the public. What you learned is applied direct in the present. Now I am not saying that it means we are better as we need every one to play some sort of defensive role be it for the present peace time or at a time where military intimidation from outside forces comes into play.

All are equally important.. home defence and Military defence.. etc

Actually, there are some areas or jobs in the SAF/Police/SCDF women can contribute by doing their NS, not necessary must be combat vocations, but of course, if any do volunteer for the combat vocations, I'm sure they are welcome too, since there are already females servicemen in various combat vocations like Guards, Infantry, Artillery, Pilots, Air Defence etc etc.

The female NS can always take up jobs like:

1. Medics in Medical Center (sure got more people report sick every day :bsmilie
2. Admin Officers/Clerical staffs (This will be the biggest proportion)
3. Store I/C
4. Vehicle mechanic (though not sure how many ladies actually interested in this but it's a skill)
5. Other technical stuff like IT, comms, signal.
6. Security/Police departments

Then SAF/Police/SCDF can better utlise the NS boys for other vocations to do other stuffs.

The girls in Israel does do their part by serving 2 years NS also, many of them also goes into combat vocations.

Enlist Sept 99, ORD Jan 05 and No i'm not a Rambo... so I guess you're one? My NS training teach me there is no Rambo in SG defence force.. your NS served in Singapore?
