Hi,
I'm just wondering if it's worth upgrading the 5D kit lens 18-70mm to this MINOLTA AF 17-35MM F2.8-4 (D) ?
If the photo quality better with this MINOLTA AF 17-35MM F2.8-4 (D) ?

Most ppl here will say its worth to change but ask yourself if you need it and dying to have one? Are you satisfied with the results from your 18-70?
Find a chance to meet up with someone who owns the 17-35, and do a on-the-spot comparison using same subject/environment/ambient/lighting/framing/focal length.
See the results and judge it yourself.

hmm...tamron has 28-75...minolta has 28-75. tamron has 17-35 f/2.8-4, minolta has 17-35 f/2.8-4

since its well known that minolta collaborated with tamron to produce the 28-75, did they do the same for the 17-35 too?

If u need the larger apertures, go ahead. But if f/5.6 suffices at the long end, keep the kit lens... it's a pretty good lens except that it does not so pro, that's all.

Hmm.. interesting.. I was going thru some of my old threads.. and saw this posting.
Just want to share my opinion on this.. since now I have this lens 17-35mm f2.8-4 (D).. the answer is "YES".
:)

It depends purely on ur needs.

For some, they like it due to the large maximum variable aperture it offers and its bang for buck. For others (like me), don't really like it due to its relatively short focal length and carrying more den 2 lenses on a backpack trip is a :nono:

If I'm going on a serious photography trip, primes anyday.

At least the 18-70 focal length is excellent for general shoots. :D

For me sharpness is the 1st priority..
I did compare the lens performance against 17mm Tokina lens.. and seem to be better at wide open.. :)
