The shutter sound is produced by the mechanical shutter and mirror of the camera whilst taking the photo, I'm afraid that you wouldn't be able to switch it off.
Digital Point and shoot cameras do not employ mechanical shutters and mirrors (they use electronic shutters (basically, switching the sensor on/off while taking photo) - and the "Old school" shutter sound is played through a speaker in simulation, while the shutter sound of a DSLR is the real deal (the parts do move and they eventually, after very long usage, will wear out)
The 3:2 sensor means that the sensor is wider than it's tall for with ratio of 3 is to 2... FYI,
The a200's sensor measures 23.6mmx15.8mm (which fits this sizing relation)
3 frames per second is more or less self explanatory - for it states that the camera can take 3 pictures a second.
Hey! Don't consider already, think sony is the 'best' among the 3 la.. I am using an a200.. very happy with it.. The kit lens has superb range, where else can u find 18-70mm kit. hahaha
Anyway, I'm so happy with the system that I bought a 70-210mm F2.8 lens, 50mm F1.7 lens and F58AM flash... getting a grip soon.. SO dun worry too much, most important is to keep shooting once u bought ur camera.

i think all the 3 models has its pros and cons..
k200d has weather sealing for a entry level...kinda slow autofocus though...thats when i tested it..maybe its bcos of the lack of light as i found out a day after testing..i like the grip..very nice and meaty...the LED screen at the grip is useful too..
the e520..so small...nice feel(texture wise)..i love the natural colours.....but my hands ache abit...somehow..zuiko digitals are also pretty good quality..but somehow its AF...like..searching..searching..and searching..
then it was the brand i so never tried before...sony a200s...i was expecting a cheap plastic feel...but i was wrong...nice grip....abit rubberized...okla...cant expect much for a sub 900 dollar camera..unlike the canon 1000d which was more plasticky..
i liked the reach on the 18-70 too..like the D70s of old...
but overall..i am a very simple person...criteria is simple..something unintimidating..lets me take clear pictures...dun need to have so many features..as long got IS..not a canon...not a nikon......i happy already..plus..of course...a flash...a battery grip..and 1 35mm or 50mm prime lens...hehehehe
the e520 2 lens kit is abt 100 dollars cheaper than the a200 2 lens kit..wats the justification that the a200 is worth that extra 100 dollars?
zuiko digitals are of good build...plus olympus crammed alot of good features in the e520...but its accesories is so ex...

take note that olympus are in 4/3 mounts which means that it crop the picture 2x (twice) the focal length of your lens so for example 14-24mm goes to 28-48mm or 50mm to 100mm. although future 4/3 system (micro 4/3 i think) plan is to make DSLR as lite as possible.
while sony a200 is 1.5x crop means add half the focal length of your lens.. example.. 50mm to 75mm.. in addition which would likely would happen because photography is addictive you will find yourself wanting for a full frame camera like a900 which use the entire 50mm focal length.

Best to read up on how DSLR cameras work... They're not point-and-shoot compact cameras that play a sound file through a speaker.
Features wise, all i can say is that the a200 is among the best entry level dslr u can find. You can't ask for more. A200 is a gd camera for beginners to get the basics right. U have 9 AF points which is very good, excellent iso range (100-3200), its value for money and in my point of view, the camera provides excellent colours. For me, no live view is gd, as i get to get my basic right (framing and composition) by looking into the camera. Plus, live view is only good when u have ample time to frame your shots, which u usually don't have when out for shooting like weddings or street shoots. U end up looking into the camera too.

ahh...the 100 dollars goes to the 9 AF and the wide ISO range..how could i have missed that..how would you rate the 18-70 kit lens anywaes?
i was thinking of this..
get the single lens kit...a flash..and just start snapping...save up for the 70-300 G lens or the Vario sonnar 16-80..
Or should I just get the 2 lens kit?

To me, I find the kit lens very decent and it has a better range compared to the other camps'. One of our bros have actually produce stunning pictures with the kit lens, although some people will slam the lens saying that the build is more inferior to those offered by their camp. :dunno:.
Anyway, I would suggest that you get the cam with the 16-80mm or just the body if possible. Kit lens is easily available on the web and it's not expensive.

Yup i can't agree more. If u are on budget, i suggest getting the one bundled with 2kit lens, covers most of your range. If not, get the body only and i suggest the new sony's 16-105mm lens. Excellent piece of lens. OR Tamron 17-50mm F2.8
The SONY kit lens cost more cos they are larger physically. They're matched to a sensor that is much larger than the sensor found in the Olympus.
Also the 18-70 kit lens is a pretty well-respected lens as kit lens go... it's worth the extra bucks.
One more important point is that should you decide to upgrade your lenses, you have much more choice. You can consider Tamron, Tokina, Sigma and Cosina AF lenses... for the Olympus, only Sigma makes a few 4/3 lenses, otherwise you're stuck with very expensive Olympus lenses... so I think the SONY or even Pentax is a lot more democratic in lens choice.
There's little to choose between the SONY and Pentax... both are equally good value. Both have equally good performance. It's a give and take situation where features are concerned. But if you take a look at the Buy & Sell Forums in Clubsnap, you'll find that there're lots of 2nd hand lenses, flashes and other accessories (which you probably may not know what they're for and have no use for them at present) available for sale at very reasonable prices. Also all the Minolta and Konica Minolta lenses on the market also fit your Alpha 200. So you do actually have a very wide base of lenses and accessories at very affordable prices (you don't have to buy new if you're only experimenting).

If there's one lens that's a killer combo, it's the 16-105 mm SONY lens... it's the perfect lens for a beginner as it allows you to look at wide angle to telephoto. You can experience the different types of shooting available with different focal lengths and decide which area of photography you're really interested in. And you can still keep the 16-105 mm as a travel lens. One lens, one body, one flash, very compact and versatile combo...
Hey, I suggest u go down to MS color or Cathay Photo and try to negotiate for a separate body and lens package. 16-105mm cost about 700 dollars plus i guess, the shop won't turn you down if they can make money i guess. Try your luck and gd luck!!
You can always opt for a A200 + 16-105mm combo. It's sold overseas like this as a kit too. There is always room to negotiate for a different kit lens as tank0085 mentioned.
CZ 16-80 you mean... He does have a point. It's a very powerful combo.

ehh, I think any decent dslr camera can do that, if you are talking about photos shrinking down to that size. Unless you post two identical photos at 100% crop, it is very difficult to determine whether CZ16-80mm lens is superior to Sony DT 16-105mm. Furthermore, CZ16-80 is ideal for full frame which means you will get certain portions of ur photos cut off when using it with A200.
Therefore, altho CZ16-80mm may be a superior lens to 16-105mm, I feel you shld get a longer zoom range to train urself in the basics first before settling into such a high performance lens.
