It's ok then. ;)

Scratches is one thing, Good workmanship is another, gryphon's work is a good example. It shows that gryphon is a responsible, careful, patient man, with a good pair of hands.
Though gaffer up the whole cam is not my taste, I do respect them for such patient & workmanship.

To gaffer or not is up to individuals. Yes, camera is jus a tool, more important is the hands behind it. However, taking good care of ur tools will ensure it serves u longer & better(Not in the sense of better picture).
I believe everyone blow, brush & clean their lenses & keep them in drybox rite? This is jus another way of protecting ur investment.

Eh, don't like that, leh ... bring down to Spinellis one day and tell us when, and we'll critique on the spot ;)

Seriously, there seem to be many approaches, and they are all, for better or worse, a great idea. Even something as simple as gaffering the bottom plate of the camera to help a QR plate grip better ...

Shiroi: You can buy gaffer tapes from me at $38 each. Currently doing an MO for it in Consumer's section.

Well, there are many types of gaffer tapes, some cost $8 per roll, some cost $5 per roll even. Someone even mentioned to me that there's a shop in Sophia road that sells these. The reason why you pay the premium of $38 is because of the non-residual, non-slip and tough quality; plus it's imported from USA. Consider it a small premium to pay for your big investment.

Most important of all, the surface that you're applying gaffer has no traces of oil or solvent. Any type of adhesive will be transferred to surfaces with oil, especially.

Del_CtrlnoAlt: I do have white ones if you're interested. Special order for u ;)

hi Canturn,

Anyone can recommend where to get short lengths of gaffer tape in town area (Orchard, Selegie etc)?

I've been using cheapo duct tape (composite overlay on top of low-adhesive book tape) to 'gaffer' strategic areas of my camera, PDA, binos, etc for protection as well as better grip. I treat these as instruments rather than Hao-lian shiny things to show-off so I do it for practical reasons. Have to replace them every couple of months or so to avoid the hardening process... so gaffer tape will be more convenient.

<rant> Sometimes I see show-offs in Ah Beng clothes posing with flashy cams in messy places like construction sites or villages and wonder how much extra maintenance they have to do afterwards. If one wants to hao-lian his $$$-cam or underused $$$$-supa smartphone its his business I suppose..... Vertu hp, Rolex watch or $$$jewelry are meant to be be shown-off so I guess these need to be matched with the model-looks and haute couture fashion of the person holding/wearing them. I use my tools as they are and how flashy they look is a low priority to how much I can improve their effectiveness to my needs. If I want a shiny thing to haolian then I'll buy a solid gold necklace with big $ sign and giant jade rings with solid gold belt...these I don't want to gaffer...<rant>

So any recommendations eg. which shop to find 3M gaffer tape?
