tropicana orange juice at cold storage $7.90. at fairprice $6.80. different prices same quality.

nasi lemak at chong pang $3. nasi lemak at adam road $3. same prices different quality.

2 exact properties on sale. 1 is a fire sale by the bank and the other sky high by a greedy owner. different prices same quality.

canon 1ds mk3 $8000 nikon d90 $2000. different prices same quality.
same in what terms?

Well quoting a very famous investor,

"Price is what you pay, Value is what you get"

Price is only a guideline of the quality (value) of the item in discussion, sadly, it should be accurate but not always.

It is at best a crude benchmark of value/quality.

Esp given the excessive marketing $ pumped into each new product & "branding", ironically, sometimes things will only be perceived as of good quality if it is priced excessively high, e.g. Perfumes & luxury items.

A lot of ppl including me hv been judging the quality of something(eg. camera,. lens) by its price.. Is it right? Any examples?

Almost all the time, but not always.
In Canon, L lens usually have better IQ and built compared to non-L. And, more expensive than non-L.

There are many arguable case, though - example, EF17-40 f4 L, slightly cheaper than the EFS17-55 f2.8 IS - the former have better built, but IQ of the latter is said to be better. But again, that is EF vs EFS.

Price is an indication by the seller of how good you should expect a product to be. It's only a guideline

a second hand nikkor 105mm f2.5 AIS at $150.. price or quality?

i believe price is a guideline, you can use that as a gauge on how good that product is, if u dunno anythin bout it, of course once u have known, then u will start to compare, it is really worth that much? somethin like that

hahaha. watched already. pokemon say D90 = 1DS3. how?

All depending on what u need and how you gonna use it. Be it the price is high or low as long as it's able to justify your need in ur phototaking.

The equipment is only as good as it's wielder...

Tialimpeikong!

True, if my geer good but photo cui, cannot blame geer, only can say 技术不够好

There's no right or wrong to judge it that way cos it's up to the individual.

Perhaps it's better to say - We judge the rationale of the price by the size of our wallet. :D

u must b a lousy photographer... if a 1ds mark 3 can equal with d90 means that person usin it is lousy.
so its really not only the gear, its the user as well.

Hi, I buy stress-free device, not brand name, quality control, etc but don't get price chopped and learning curve.

Most of the time yes, unless it's the same product. Otherwise no one would buy the more expensive L lenses.

never judge a book by its cover, never judge a person by his skin

judge a piece of equipment by its function and what it will give you .....

Life however is very vague and grey ... nothing to stop anyone to value anything in anyway at all ... and value is a very relative term :dunno:

why did TS ask this kinda question anyways ??

one is hand made and inspected bit by bit to ensure best quality in a factory in germany, the other is probably made by machines in some warehouse in korea. Guess which one costs twice as much?

It is amazing the crap people will believe. And believe with such zeal too...

Leica D-Lux4 and Panasonic Lumix LX3 are made in the same factory in Japan. Both are made by Panasonic. Just that the Lux4 is owned by Leica legally, but "contract manufactured" by Panasonic. It is the same how the Hasselblad XPAN and XPAN2 are both "contract manufactured" by Fujifilm.

Welcome to the real world. Time to grow up. Guess who's the "smart" one?

BTW, Korea is one of the electronics manufacturing powerhouses in the world now. Samsung memory manufacturing is king now, and where is Infineon (formerly Siemens... ala Germany)? Fail. I am not even going to mention Australia. So cut the degratory insinuations kid and adjust your attitude in this forum.

Price is not an accurate indication of quality. As one of the previous posters pointed out, Price != Value.

Price is dictated by market segmentation and product placement. Even in different countries you can find price differentiation for the very same products. So if you follow the price=quality line of thought, in different countries with price differentiation, the quality will be different for the same product?
