Is it possible to check shutter-count on a Canon DSLR?

yeah, but of course, when there's a choice definitely ppl'll choose jap/taiwan over china...

hmm, my 7D wasn't shipped yet, they need all sorts of documents for risk assessments which totally sucks.

Not all.

If I am to buy a Hyundai car, I will buy the one made in Hyundai Beijing over the one made in Korea. The ones coming out of Beijing's factory has much much lower defect rates than the main factory in Hyundai Korea. Same for GM cars made in Shanghai vs the ones made in USA.

People complain that Sigma lenses do not have good QC but they are all made in Japan. Yet, the 50/1.8 (D and G) and 35/1.8G from Nikon do not show any problems even though they are made in Wuxi Jiangsu China.

Quality is is more of a result of the actual manufacturing and QC process. Not the country of manufacture.

yeah, true. but that all depends on what to trust and what-not.
as for DSLRs, i stick to Canon due to its body where it's being made too, instead of Nikon which is Thailand except those pro-sumers DSLRs

Not to join into the debate of whether Taiwan/Japan made better products as compared to China... we will just have to agree to disagreed. TS and whoever supported his notion is entitled to their opinion.

For me... I couldn't care less where my lenses and cameras came from... as long as they work as intended and I am happy with that. To date, I have a couple of lens that are made in China, and they have no problem at all. My computer is also made in China, no problem too... so was my MP3 player. Given a choice, I will not hesitate to get China's product again.

Yeah... Indeed true.

I'm not biased on china-made stuffs, just that I'm conscious on where my product is made and more importantly, how long can it last.

update: they rejected my order due to failed risk assessment test which even after i sent them my scanned NRIC, front and back of the card, issuing card's bank statement with address.

and now said i can only pay by bank transfer, they'll refund the money (SGD$2071.08) back to my card which when foreign rate exchanges back to SGD, what u get back will be lower, if anyone gets it.
