Some initial discussion said it is based on the Bessa R3a. So that might be a cheaper alternative. Another rumour said yeah, its based on the R3a but it has a longer base length. If that is the case, that alone makes it superior.
I think the reality is that besides leica, cosina is about the only other company which is probably tooled in a big way to build RF cameras at the moment. The only other one is Fuji which makes the xpan.
Even the soviets don't build RF cameras anymore.
Another rumour has it that the world is now facing a shortage of 135-format mechanical shutters... so future designs are all electro-magnetic shutters.
