Is it cheaper to buy Nikon lens in USA?

Is it? Funny one sales person at CP told me Indonesians are their best customers - got one even one shot buyD700 and all 3 trinity lenses.

It's a stereotype, but aren't Indonesians in Singapore superduper rich???

Nikon is hella expensive in Indo...

if living in the USA for a while, I'll buy the most expensive gear, before returning to Singapore, return your goods for a full refund =P

Except that doesn't work for electronics. This isn't costco kohl's or REI where they'll take refunds no questions asked.

Will be there for a year. It's either buy here and cart there or go there and buy. Current 18-200 len dropped and beyond economic repair..**heartbroken** Shipping charges are waived for some of the online store in us.

nice to know!

Return policy usually is 30days. And that includes time for shipping. And some stores charge a 15% restocking fee for certain items. And shipping is usually not refunded...

Costco, Kohl's and REI have an unlimited return policy for non electronics. They don't even need the receipt or care if its used, you just need the credit card you purchased the item with. I returned 2 pairs of hiking pants that were 2 years old to REI for the full amount. Friend returned a grill to costco 7 years down the road. Just don't attempt to return something that looks like its been thrown in and regurgitated from Mt Vesuvius. I don't buy clothes much, but I hear Nordstrom's policy is even better

Return policy times for online purchases do not include time for shipping, but rather when you obtain the RMA number. RMA numbers last 10-14 days, which is more than enough time to ship across the country(ie from southern california to new york, takes about 5-7 days). Less and less stores are charging restocking fees.

BH photo and Adorama do not charge for shipping, and you don't incur sales tax if you buy from outside of New York. You may have to wait a while though. I used to take time off work to wait at home for the UPS guy :p
edit: also... lens not len.

The pros and cons of honor system...

In my 12 years in california, I only returned things 4-5 times, and most of it was due to a problem with the product on unboxing, the rest is either wrong size, or product not as described. Sure I know people who bought from REI, go on a ski trip, dry clean, and return the ski suits. The ability to do that doesn't mean we should do that. But then again, everyone has different ideas and belief on what is right or wrong.

Agreed......but sadly, its frequently abused. But in case of genuine problems like you mentioned, it can be helpful. Shopping here in the USA gives one confidence. =p

Its going off topic but...

In places like REI, the companies actually encourage the return policy. On the surface, it looks counterproductive for their own sales, but in reality, it gets consumers coming back over and over. Its part of their marketing plan for consumer satisfaction. REI has used gear sales quarterly and employees get first picks. Everyone is happy, consumers and employees alike and this allows REI to boost sales through volume. Its pretty much win/win even when faced with customers who 'rent' gear for free. These customers will often come back and purchase other items. Its just a deeper play on the 'lifetime warranty' that other companies offer.

I'm a REI member and its their dedication to customer satisfaction which keeps me coming back. I've spent thousands of dollars on camping equipment. Would I have done the same if they did not have this policy? Probably not. Big 5 sporting goods was closer to my apartment.

For my friend who returned the 7 year old grill however... I've got nothing to say.
