Is it a waste to use L lens on crop body?

Hey guys, if we put the FOV aside, which one would produce a better picture quality? Indeed the L lens would feel more superior build wise, but how about the image produced for these 2 lenses?

Both are capable of producing nice sharp images. You can also go goggle the chart out and compare yourself or goggle for pic snap by these lenses etc etc..

Problem is.. see. If i show you 2 pictures taken the same way by the mentioned lenses (properly correctly exposed).
I bet you cant tell which is which anyway..or if i even use the 2 lenses stated above (unless you view the EXIF info).

Why not? Nothing wrong with using L lenses on crop bodies, I have a friend who uses nothing but L lenses with his 7D to shoot concerts. Sort of a waste if you think that using a crop camera does not allow you take advantage of awesome lenses like the 70-200mm F2.8 L MkII and 300mm F2.8L

i wun say its a waste but rather, your crop body will not maximise the use of the L lens (as in the wideness) since only the center crop of the lens will be used, but this is good... so any corner faults like 17-40, you wun see it on crop but pretty obvious on FF.

Thanks for all the insights guys! I'll probably go for the 17-55mm soon! Cheers
