No. what your going through is like people in the past going from Medium format to 35mm...
It feels that DSLR is killing the joy for you.

I would ask you to get a Leica M8 or RD1 but since you like Macro.
Ricoh GR3 might be a better bet.
I will rank some that I feel is good for you at various price points.
LX3, Ricoh GR3 $980,Leica Dlux4, Sigma DP2 $1.2K, EP2 (1.6k) , Leica X1 3k
In terms of Image quality Leica can go beyong D90.
Sigma might be a good compromise as its sensor is like D90 so the amount of out of focus is greater.

Most photographers have more than one camera.. for different kind of work. Keep the D90. you might like it when you interest change

Since you have the D90 might as well keep it, unless you need it to convert to CASH for ur LX3. Do take note of the contraints of the LX3 compared to D90. Its not a pure one for one replacement where all else remains the same.

Getting a spare and good Pns is healthy alternative i ll say. I have the G10 as spare when I dont feel like bringing out my DSLR. But at the end of the day , I would say , theres a certain satisfaction in using the DSLR to get the pictures of your desire .

Rangefinders is a totally different ball game for many of us . The price barrier of the Leica M series is itself a huge barrier ( >10k i think) Add on leica lenses, its really more for the hardcore rangefinder photographers , fans and the wealthy collectors.

The M4/3 option as highlighted by many is a good in between alternative . Ep1,2 and GF1. But they are priced in the >1k categories . Do bear in mind that these m4/3 cameras arent really that small also heh.At least not pocket size heh.

D90 and LX3 is really quite different beast all together.. i owned both and i would say i will not sell either..

LX3 is good for general use, low light situation and business travel.
D90 is good for travelling, serious photography stuffs... cons is the weight... but you get better image quality if you have good lenses and more pulling power..

The D90 is still with me and also my new LX3~ ;p

There is really different between a Pns cam and the DSLR cam, each have their pro n cons~ I can foresee some of the days I will still use my D90~ so great that it is still with me.

imagine the time and strength to carry a d300 + 18-200 around ur holiday

i rather enjoy my trip and slugging around the camera...

I kept my D70 but bought the LX-3, 3 days ago for everyday use. Perhaps because the D70 was alot heavier, I feel that the LX-3 is really an everyday cam for now.

D70 is a little aged now.. i owned one for the past 5 yrs and just let it go.. U shd perhaps upgrade d70 to d90... u will find the upgrade more than worthwhile..

D70 still got value? Mine is also about 5 years old, not very utilized and just changed some parts last year. So practically as good as new... :dunno:

I don't quite agree with u, some compacts do have pretty clean pics at high ISO. Example is Fujifilm's F series.

i own a LX3 and wanted to shoot macro with it but at the end of the day, i find it's easier to shoot macro with dslr so i got a d90 (budget constraint). i still have my lx3. image wise, definitely cannot fight with d90 but for compactness, it's simply lovely to carry around. i use it to shoot everywhere i go. i only bring my dslr out when i feel ready enough to carry the weight around (despite how much i love it).

in any case, it's easier to learn more about photography technics with dslr (in my opinion lah). i've never regretted having both. lx3 with ricoh lc-1 is just so fun to play with (literally). you will know what i mean when u search for the lc-1 cap with dlux4 on youtube

if image quality is not much of a concern for you, pls get lx3 (iso 800 is the max i can't take without too much noise), otherwise stick to dslr.

I am in big headache now....I need advice...Please...

I own a D90 for a year plus till now. I love photoshooting, more into Macro but I am not a good DSLR user...I go places shooting Macro, joint basic photoshooting lesson etc. and I still faced difficulty using a DSLR camera...It is very complicated....secondly DSLR camera is very heavy & big..nearly half a year I didnt touch it or go for photoshooting..

I still love & interested in photoshooting, I relaised that I prefer to have a compact digital camera which is small, light, can carry around easliy and can perform similar photoshooting like a DSLR camera. I am not sure is a compact camera much more easy to understanding comparing to a DSLR camera?

I am thinking of selling my D90 and get a LX3 which is small, light easy to bring along for street shooting, travels and also possible to perform macro shooting, attached filters, flash etc... I dont know, is it a bad decission to sell away D90 and get LX3.....

Seem like most of you upgrade from compact digital camera to a DSLR and is so...I am downgrading it.....

How do you define not a good DSLR user and what is meant by complicated?

Bulkiness/Weight is a factor you should have taken into consideration before you bought your DSLR.

So i 'assume' the problem is not a good DSLR user and complicated is the issue. Instead of avoiding it, why not face it and overcome it.

The LX3 is a prosumer camera while a D90 is an entry lvl DSLR. Is there really a difference in easier usage other then weight/size factor?

My 2 cents, please dont feel offended.

Same here. Only take pictures for remembrance sake and don't care if the shots are good or bad. More gadets & features, the better the camera for me. Basically, an idiotproof camera with decent results.

Got rid of my DSLR and LX3 and now using GH1 with 20mm, 14-45 & 14-140 lens. The 14-140 is too heavy and will use it when video is likely required, like Chingay or Disney parade. Otherwise, 14-45 & 20mm is small enough. Replaced LX3 with Sony WX1 as it is much smaller & lighter with longer zoom for daily walk-about camera. Love the Panorama & Handheld Twilight (better than LX3 iA). The Anti-blur feature really work - no more blur pictures. It takes 6 shots and merge it into 1. I guess it remove any blur images and output as 1 blurfree image. Just got back from Vegas and used the Pano feature at Grand Canyon South Rim. Can't do that with the LX3 or GH1. Use it for Fremont St. light show (pan from end-to-end) while it's playing Queen's music. Did not bring the GH1 due to high security check. Only regret is I can't shoot a man hiking down the canyon (crazy lone guy hiking in the snow) and donkeys climbing up as it is too far away. Need the 45-200 lens.

At the CES Panasonic camera booth, the guy ask me to get the 7-14 lens as it produce fantastic video and superb still too. I know it takes superb still but would like to know if anyone with this lens tried it on video.

Can't wait for the 3D plasma (62") with 3D BD player coming out this 2nd quarter. They were demontrating it on the 152" HD Plasma. Samsung would probably be cheaper.

Dslr can be light also..Of cos not as compact as pns.... Sometime I just throw my s5 pro with a small 50mm f1.4 or 30mm f1.4 into my small bag.. Dun really feel any weight at all. I value high iso performance advantages, f1.4 n IQ in all lighting situations..n also because I try to utilize the dslr instead of having so many cameras. Some poor ppl in some countries can't even afford a film camera.. Here we have multiple hp, computers , cameras etc.

With my recent few trips outing taking macro shots with LX3, I can honestly said: I miss my D90! ;p

LX3 is really a great pns camera and It can produce fast capture with the object I want within a few seconds...but when come to object that is quite a distance away (distance between a pond!, higher level above your head) it cant really capture .... I am so great that when I opened this post and so many CS memember drop your advices, experiences between the different between a Pns camera and a DSLR camera and I have the time to read before I make my rush decision to sell my D90.

And how luckly am I after read all the replies, I still keep my D90 with me! Now I would even want to use it again for certain shots that LX3 cant reach.

Well said, same situation here! Though I wanted to take good picutres and am still learning it, I know it will never be my future ricebowl. It's for keeping track of my family's milestones and not for competitions anyway.

And yeah, I pondered hard before I decided to take just my LX3 to Korea last year - and it's more than sufficient if you work within its means. That said, a PnS can never replace the satisfying experience of a dSLR.

To TS, yep, I think you've made the right choice in keeping both... cos humans are finicky!

Well I made the decision to upgrade from LX3 to D90 instead and I have not regretted my decision in keeping both cameras.

Reasons being:

1. Sometimes don't feel like bringing bulky camera on weekdays so LX3 is perfect.
2. D90's AF is really fast compared to lx3. I use D90 all the time during weekends.
3. I don't have money to buy the tamron 17-50 F2.8 lens yet so LX3 is still useful for wide angle shots.

Having a DSLR and PnS/Micro4/3 is good choice, for the reason that for some trip or meet up i don't think you would like carry a big camera.

Have both D90 & LX3.. Love this combo.. use my LX3 as my wide angle camera.. =)
